Yeah after I got it open I looked at the latch it's bent up but it's fixable I'm just going to be a little more careful when closing the engine Hood from now on.. that little inflatable airbag saved my life

Only thing I can think of would be to remove the front drivers side wheel and wheel housing liner and hope that you can maybe get something up there to get to the latch and release it. Still not certain though - if its doable it will be very tight and awkward to get to with the steering shaft and other stuff going through that gap.

You can see in the pic I posted that the actual latch is on the opposite side of the bracket too which will not help matters. Just thinking out loud .... but another possibility that would probably be even harder would be to try to remove the 4 10mm bolts that attach the bracket to the firewall. Two on each side though - probably would not be any easier. Or the three bolts that attach the latch to the bracket. Or the two bolts that attach the catch loop to the hood itself. Also if you know for sure that the cable broke at the latch then it will not help but if it broke at the handle inside just the inside handle loose and use some pliers to pull the cable .

In any case this pic might help too. Circled in red is the part that the cable pulls on. Ideally you could somehow reach that and push that bit towards the back to release it.

Default Stuck shut hood fix

I had the exact same problem I just I thought I was never going to be able to open it and then I ordered one of those little air bags with the hand pump I pumped it as hard as I could about 20 times I actually popped open but I have heard of other people using the pump to open the hood two or three in and using a long screwdriver to pry the latch off of the hood pin and it pops open as well main thing though order one of those little pumps from Ebay they are like 10 bucks I'm telling you it will help immensely otherwise you pretty much screwed

I just did the dumbest thing: Removed cable from catch thinking I would remove catch to clean it so it would properly retain the hood. Decided not to do the job. Shut the hood and wouldnt you know the latch that hasnt been latching latched! Only now, I had removed the cable from it, so there was NO way I was getting it to release. Well, I found a way. Crank the wheels all the way to the right so you can get your head and self in behind the driver side tire/wheel. With a flash light you can look up and see the latch mechanism (its spring is most noticeable). You can also see the little arm that you need to push back to release the catch. A long piece of aluminum angle iron, like the one in the photo lets you reach it and push it towards the rear, and it worked. Hope this helps some other desperate individual. I thought I was going to cry!! (actually my 20 yr old son crept in there and saw this first!)
