I had a 2006, but that got totaled in 2009.

My comments are directly related to a 2010 H3 Alpha.

In fact, I had no issues with my 2006. Had CAI and dual exhaust. Pick up was amazing, in fact better than my alpha. Would literally force your body against the seat.

Granted mine is the last year and last delivery from Hummer, but workmanship overall has left me dead in an intersection (transmission), no heat or a/c (2x) and a host of other issues.

The better Hummer service in my areas have all gone away and the best one I know is 110 miles away (I do my best to ensure they get the real work).

With any TOTALY NEW VEHICLE and a TOTALLY NEW PLATFORM from any brand there is growing to be growing pains and mistakes. GM / HUMMER did care about the H3 and their customers. Look at the larger displacement I5 for 2007 and mid-year 2007 interior change. The addition of the optional V8 in 2008. Expanding the model line up to include the H3T and a front locker option in 2009. Heck they even made a “flex-fuel” version of the V8 in 2010.

Why was there a recall?

Because the connector and the resistor could short out, quickly causing a fire.

We're not talking about some aesthetics, we're talking about roughly 160,000 H3's on the road that could potentially go into flames because of this.

Therefore, wouldn't you agree this is a fire hazard putting lives in danger and needs to be far more immediate in action?

Do any of you have even a clue as to what it takes to design and then manufacture a 100,000 or so of anything?

Consider it is not a current production vehicle, and they have to contract it with a supplier that is willing to STOP producing another product they are making in far higher volume and making more money on, to make the reconfigured harness. It is not going to happen overnight. You can't order it on your smart phone and pick it up at the store within the hour. Chill out, relax, life goes on.

That is what my dealer said as well.

Part should be in by early next week.

My story.

Purchased a 2006 H3. Main reason was safety. That came to a test in late 2009.

In the trunk were recently purchased groceries, bread, eggs, etc. About 3 bags total.

In the back seat were 2 children under the age of 5. Buckled in to Recaro baby seats.

On a 4 way stop, the H3 had a clear path to go, no other cars around, and is suddenly hit by a Nissan Xterra going 35 mph (never acknowledged the stop sign) and slams directly into the passenger side center. The H3 is spun around and pushed some 30 feet.

Everyone in the vehicle not only survived, but aside from neck pain for the driver, the children were untouched. Not a scratch.

Broken glass everywhere. Crushed frame. H3 was dead. A direct hit to the center of the vehicle.

Did I mention not a single egg broke?

This happened when Obama shut down the Hummer division.

I was thankful to be able to get a 2010 when they started up production in Feb/ Mar 2010 and bought another one. Primary reason. Safety.

Fast forward to today? I wish I'd never bought it. My youngest gets his license this year and I don't even want to give it to him I don't feel it's safe or reliable. Sad.

Yeah, I think you may be dealing with a bit of a rosy "memory" there (which is fine, but...). Not putting ANY of the H3s down, but I test drove an '07 I-5, and then test drove (and bought) an '08 Alpha. Sorry, but there is nothing that will convince me that a 5000# vehicle with a 3.5 litre 5 cylinder has more pick up than the same vehicle with a 5.3 litre V8. 220 HP/225 lbft vs 300HP/320lbft? Not even the low mileage '07 I drove which had the larger 3.7 with 239HP/241lbft could hold a candle to my V8. A CAI & dual exhaust can't make up an 80HP/95lbft defecit. I'm sure it "sounded" like it was going faster, though!

Default " short out covers,,everything!"

Because the connector and the resistor could short out
when something actually "shorts out" it means two wires with voltage between them, touch or connect wrongly.
when that happens, the fuse in the system involved opens. usually nothing else happens.
the fan speed resistor/connector problem is mostly caused by a loose, bad contact that may overheat, the opposite of "short"
overheating melts the insulation and you should smell that in time to prevent a fire,,,rare!
ive driven 2 h3 90000 miles with no wire problem.

Don't wait for the follow up letter from GM.
I called my local dealer and he had the new parts. They just received them this week
Just went down this morning and they installed the new resistor/connector.
I also checked when I got home and it is the new redesigned parts

Yep, that's dangerous. Just like standing on the sidewalk when a bus is driving by and it you jumped out in front of the bus, you could get killed, but you didn't jump and lived. So far no flames.
