CV Axle damage / repair Question
Driving with Cv's without grase is not a good idea, they're getting hot till they blow away. My boot had a hole from wood parts or so, the grase was easy to get out on highway and i never think to only repair those. Changing just the CV joint is ok, but with a new boot and clamp. Mine had 17 years now and changing them both is ok. I will refresh the one which is still intact, new boot and clamps with new paint and grease, i'll keep it as spare.
Disel, i know I can drive in 2WD but that's not my goal.

The axle CV joint boot is there to hold the grease for the joint and keep out debris and water. Without being sealed, the joint grease comes out and collects debris within. When the joint lacks grease and debris intrusion, grinds down the ball bearings. When bearings are worn, it will begin to click on turns for outside joints and click under load inner. There's no real set time how long the joint will last, could be a year+?

Fixed, thanks guys. After installing both new ACDelco CV's, all is fine again.
Gonna give the old OEM CV's a new life by cleaning them, repainting them and put new boots and tons of grease in and keep them as spare....hope not to need them but...I prefer to have spare OEM parts.
