Yes, repairing the way you suggest MIGHT be sufficient. Repairing with the parts suggested by Doc Olds WILL be sufficient. Your experience, Hummerz, is top drawer! I have no desire to argue with you. I've seen the above happen numerous times, in my decades of professional automotive repair service industry, and
I only charged my customers for what's broke/worn.
Many others that post here throw parts at a simple repair, then ask for help after all has failed.
Many others suggest replacing parts, since they do not have to pay?
My point was simple:

Separated cv axle does NOT require a new cv axle!

However, the boot/grease should be replaced!

Btw, I thought the main purpose of this forum was to help others & save$ DIY?
I need another beer.

Have you ever wondered why his shaft flew out? Why won't the snap ring hold?
If there is wear on the metal, then the shaft will fly out again.

I did want to add that I cannot find the inner boot for less than $65 plus shipping. Part number 15886309 GM.... I do prefer to use OEM parts if possible. Rock Auto seems to only have the outer boot for $57 but no inner boot?

Thanks again everyone.

Inner joint is only held together with the boot. Ball joint separated, knuckle flexed and extended the cv axle which pulled the tripod bearings out of the tulip. Can also happen while replacing control arms/ball joints on the lift. Look closer at smokels picture, you will see the tulip is still secured in the front diff(held on via the snap ring, yet the boot split and the shaft pulled the tripod bearings out.

Repeated post again->ACDelco is a distributor!

Usually CARDONE manufactures the axles, however ACDelco has multiple sources & changed the oem parts manufacturers many times over the years, check the label where it was manufactured. (US, Canada, Korea, Mexico, China, Japan, etc..)

Don't pay extra just for an ACDelco label on the box!

Buy from the

Manufacturer

same part & save a lot$$$

Hilarious! Just because you use bold and large type does not mean it is correct.
Automobile manufacturers have certain specifications their vendors must meet to call it an OEM part. Yes, some manufacturers will use the exact same part they produce for an OEM but that is so Very Rare.
In most cases the vendors will use the design specs and ignore the materials the OEM has specified in order to "save a buck/make a buck" on their aftermarket (non-OEM) parts. It is simple business.
I was with GM SPO/CCA (Service Parts Operations/Customer Care Aftersales) for many years and the difference in quality OEM vs Aftermarket is very evident.

When repairing the transfer case, bearings were ordered. Outside sticker acdelco, inside Toyo. The price is several times higher than in the Toyo store.
Why overpay?
And not all parts acdelco are of good quality. The same thermostat or Lambdasonde is better to take another manufacturer. For example Bosch ( Lambdasonde).
