Default Climate Control Lights (Illumination)

To anyone whose climate control lights went out (i.e. don't illuminate when the car is driving at night time/ in a dark place)....DON'T listen to the dealers/ mechanics who say you need to order the whole new unit with the 3 *****/ motherboard, etc. You can easily detatch the faceplate for that center console, and behind it take the unit off (4 small nuts hold it in place). Detatch the 3 clips for the power cords. Use guitar picks or another thin firm object to wedge in with a screwdriver to undo the clips, then on the motherboard you will see the 3 lightbulbs inside.

Go online and buy those bulbs on Amazon or Ebay, I got 10 (T4 size, 12V) for $13. Simly screw those in, close the unit, and put it back.

You can do the same with the rear windshield washer ****, and with all 4 window switches. All the same size bulb.

I heard some of those bulbs are soldered in. Are they all just screw in?

Cool

Interesting. I just noticed mine were not illuminated when I was driving the other night. I was going to look into it this weekend. Thanks for the tip.

Posts: 59Hi all...just wanted to share my experience. After much reading/searching I found the real bulbs are now available and after searching out the #'s found the best deal (link below). The price was ridiculously low ($8 for 8 vs $3-14 per), the bulbs fit and worked perfect (no soldering or jerry rigging led's) and the seller shipped fast and cheap!

Eight 8 Bulbs for 2005 2010 Hummer H3 Heater A C Controls Window Switches Mini eBay

The only caution I will give is replace them ALL while youre in there. I wasnt thinking, just did the burned out one, put it back together, and found another had blown from the jostling! Duh! If one was gone, the others were due. Replace all 3... an 8 pack gives more than enough to do all of them in the truck.

One more trick...to make the case disassembly easier use toothpicks or similar...gently pry each clip point open with a flat blade and insert pick next to tab to hold open. Once all are held open the halves of the case come apart pretty easily and without force, slipping, etc.

Hope this helps!

Are they screwed in or soldered in? Don’t want to go thru trouble of taking unit out if they are soldered in. Any reply is appreciated.
