climate control light replacement
I finally got around to replacing the burned out lights in the climate control *****. I have been holding off because of all the crazy threads I have been seeing about the whole unit needs to be replaced or the new bulbs had to be soldered in.
I ordered three bulbs from E bay for $10.99 free shipping (271277084570).The replacement was quite easy. (1) Remove the dash panel. (2) unplug the 3 wire harness connectors. (3) remove the control unit, 4 small screws (4) open the control unit, this was a little tricky, there are 11 small plastic clips that hold it together. get the first one lose and work your way around.. The circuit board does not have to come out. you are able to see the back of the three bulbs. a 1/4 turn to the left with a small screwdriver and they are out. new bulbs drop in with a 1/4 turn to the right. put it all back together. took me about 20 minutes

Glad you're seeing the dash controls again.
If you need to order more bulbs again, here is where I bought mine.
You get five bulbs and sockets for $6.99

do they need soldered?.
can the bulb wires just be pulled thru the mounting assm plug?
the socket is in the circuit board huh?
12v 60 ma bulbs naked var 40-60 cents at electronic dists, maybe radio shack. ill chech.going there for other stuff soon.

no soldering, the back of the bulb socket has a slot in it. a 1/4 of a turn left with a small screwdriver and the bulb comes out. place the new bulb in and a 1/4 turn to the right and the new bulb is seated. the bulb and socket are one piece
the bulb with wires is mounted in a plug in assm that plugs into a socket that is part of the board. I think you can remove the bad bulb and put a new one in the little thing you are calling a socket.
someone posted pix a while ago showing how the assm plugged into holes in a circuit board. that hole is the socket.
im thinking the bulb wires go thru tiny holes in the plastic piece and get bent over and cut short. the plastic becomes part ov the bulb.
so, again, if you look at a bad one, is the wire soldered?? or just bent over?

if you look at the circuit board the open hole on the left is a bulb removed, on the right is a bulb still in place. there are no bent over wires, the contacts on the bulb and socket make contact with the copper colored area on the circuit board completing the circuit. it is literally plug and play
I cant open that pix of the circuit board. I remember now my previous experience with this stuff. they called the mount a "carrier" and it plugged in the board after I pushed th e wires thru and cut them off, bent over,no solder. now I will search my junk to find one!!

Major Tom has the correct bulb and socket and it works perfectly
