@doc

Can you not modify the way the date posted...it really isn't the best font nor in the best location, really, the font and size is not that visible at first glance on a cell or tablet device.

Default H 3 engine rattle/nose/knock cold start

My mistake, the correct name for the engine is "Atlas" which comes in 3 configurations, 4,5 & 6 cylinders. I have a 4 cyl in a Colorado, a 5 cyl in the H3 and a 6 on a Trailblazer. I must add I am very pleased with the Colorado and extremely pleased with the Trailblazer with over 100k miles trouble free.

Today we are changing the oil and filter on the H3 and examining for metal residue.

Thanks All

Would love to know a solution. My 2008 H3 5-cyl does it horrible. It's embarrasing as well as annoying as hell. If there's a solution, I'll pay for it.

Mine did the same really bad on start up for about 5 seconds.. Then it would do it a little bit on a warm startup also... Well I took it to the dealer and they put on a new timing chain and timing chain tensioner and the noise is completely gone now.. So that seems to be a common problem with these motors...

I am taking my H 3 to the dealer tomorrow, last day for warranty, I would appreciate any information on the repair that fixed yours.
Thanks
Albert

Sorry.. Just got this.. That rattle on start up is the timing chain and the timing chain tensioner.. They replaced both of mine and has been very quiet since.. Hope you get this in time... Glad that ghastly noise is gone....
