The version of the duramax some folfks put in hummers is not the same as the alpha duramax. If you're thinking about doing a Duramax conversion to any other year you be better off burying your head in the sand. Not only does the engine not fit but then the electrical wiring harness is hacked apart. If you are thinking aboyt a engine conversion look into the Big Dog Offroad Cummins & Allison conversion kit. They finally just released the kit this week. The reason big dog and rubber dog don't do Duramax conversions is they don't do junk work and put out junk trucks. Doing the Duramax conversion to your truck is the fastest way to lower the value- anyone who know anything about humers won't even think about buying a duramax conversion truck!
Sorry for pushing the thread in a different direction. On the battery issue, my problem was probably the 100lbs of crap the previous owner installed in my truck. All that stuff was removed and the wiring restored. I keep the tender on it when it's not being driven for a while. But I'm not sure it is STILL an issue…

Regarding the conversion AND speaking as a customer and not as a full-time mechanic or fabricator, all I can say is that my experience has been outstanding. The fit, finish and results are great…frankly much cleaner than my original equipment. After a few thousand miles I'm seeing 20+ mpg with performance much closer to my old Raptor than to the original vehicle. I've been all over the truck, under, in the dash, etc. and the wiring is first-rate. Same for all the fabrication. Having said that, I have seen a couple of conversions done by inexperienced shops roll into Predator when I was over there. Not good. But those trucks were fixed and rolled out to their owners. So my thinking is that this is like any engine swap (which has been going on for 100 years)…quality work results in a good swap. And as noted, you can't really just swap the engine and tranny. There are a lot of other components that make the conversion better and more reliable.

BTW, your comments/suggestions on the CTIS diagnosis a couple of months ago were great. Helped me find and fix an issue…

Glad to have pointed you in the right direction so you found and fixed your ctis leak. The ctis system has a lot of places it can leak and when you know where and how to look its not to bad to find the leaks. Bubbles are bad! If you suspect a spindle ctis seal is leaking real slow just put a hose on the vent line and put it in your bottle of soapy water on the floor and if you come back in a while and the super soapy water has bubbles you know its leaking.
On engine conversions- well everyone has their own different opinions. Just like everyones defination of the word Drivable is differant.

The issue on my CTIS was some crud in the line deflate valve. Pulled the valve, cleaned up the crud and put it back. Problem solved.
