Hummer 5cyl to LS 6.0 v8
Hi all... new member here in Australia .. i have just purchased a 2008 Hummer H3 and i am in the process of swapping out the 5cyl motor for a LS 6.0 from a wrecked car.. i purchased everything from the radiator to drive shaft all wiring and computers..
I have read i need to swap out the sump and motor mounts and have sourced these ex USA ... But the transmission is my next issue. With the engine package i got the 6 speed auto L480e trans i believe.... i have also read this trans will not fit into the H3 ( happy to be proved wrong).. so what do i need to do to get the original trans to work..
.What bell housing, computer mods, trans internals ect ect.. any pictures and supplier details would be great .. I am going to do a forum spread on the conversion to help out others do the same swap...cheers

You can use the original H3 4L60E Transmission. If you have people down under that know how to rebuild them
, they can be bullet proofed to 1000HP+. You can buy them off the shelf from Monster Transmission for HD 4X4 trucks that handle 500HP, and option them to significantly more as an example.
You should realize that trying to go "bigger/more is better" is not always the smart thing to do. The H3 front Half Shafts and front diffs have been exploded by I5s, you will have to address those.
In the US and parts of EU where you can buy an H3 Alpha, you do not need to toil with swaps, the OEM LH8 is and LS motor and you can build the do do out of that to complete reliability and no re-inventing the wheel. I do understand that down under only received S. African H3s, so your swap may be the best route.

Thanks for the replies .. The bell housing on the original Hummer H3 L460E trans is a different bolt pattern to the LS 6.0 so i will need to find one that will fit and i have read that the input shaft will also have to be changed...If someone in Hummer land knows the right combination and where to purchase it from ...please let me know.. Cheers
To use the L460E trans with your 6.0, you just swap the bell housing (junk yard hunt) or use an adapter housing (buy one). The input shaft, IDK what the Aussie motors use or if it is the same in the states.
Good luck.
Good luck.
That is the problem all the wrecking yards i have called in the states have asked for a vehicle make-model or part number... Has anyone got the correct model-part number on which bellhousing and related parts required to do the swap...
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
