Default How to get a 4l80e to work right with carb motor

Looking at putting a 383 stroker in a 96 h1. Right now it has a 4l80e trans and a 350. The guy I'm doing it for doesn't want to dramas swap or big block it. He is pretty set on a 383. What I need to know, is what will be needed for the transmission to work properly. If I'll need a full computer set up such as TCI's Ez TCI or just a TV cable up to the carb. Any help would be appreciated.

I would go with a P400. Big dog offroad is a AM General Gep / Gtp dealer and can order all factory parts. You can get a amg p400 & amg factory wiring harness. Will need to also replace the top fuel tank plate assuming you have a gasser now.

You would also meed a new ecm to do the p400. The diesel p400 uses the same 4l80e trans. I beleive its actually a version of the 4L85e that is in newer hummers.

It's a gas motor now. And he wants to stay with a gas motor. He wants to put a Chevy 383 stroker motor in it. I need to know what is needed to keep the trans shifting correctly.

First off, I would suggest staying away from a carburated gasoline engine. I am not an expert on gas engines but one thing I know about this from personal experience is that carburators don't make sense on an off-road vehicle because as soon as you get the vehicle off camber or go up or down a steep grade your fuel system will shut down. So if you're going gas, go with fuel injection.

Carb engines are temperamental and unsafe. They blow up and as my brother mentioned it will run out of fuel when unlevel. Go with a fuel injected engine. A 383 stroker can put out 450-550+ hp if tuned- the hummer and the hummer cooling system wont handle it ! Id go witha diesel or, if not a fuel injected engine for safety and reliability reasons.

I would go with a factory gep 5.7 engine if you want it to stay a gasser. You can tune that and the cooling system up and use the factory amg wiring harness. I would not want to hack the vehicle harness apart. Thats a bucket of worms you dont want to open.
