4L65E to 4L80E Trans Conversion
Greeting Peeps,
I have been reading the postings on this site for quite some time. The input from the community has proven to by very helpful. Today I FINALY decided to “pull the trigger” and register. This is my first posting, so bare with me. LOL.
That being said;
I have an 03’ H2 and I’m planning to take it off-line next year and rebuild the Powertrain and suspension. I’ve read the Thread started by M3Cruz regarding the possibilities of an 2003 to 2008 engine swap (don’t waist my time was the general consensus). Advise noted.
But what about the transmission? Can I swap my 4L65E 4 speed trans’ for a 6 speed 4L80E? So far from the Google Box’, I’ve learned that 4L80E is longer and much heavier and that I may have to modify my crossmember (& other brackets) and harness but what about the “Dog House.” While the bell housing fit?
Also, would the swap be noticeable worth it. I don’t haul a heavy load, but I do annually tow motorcycles (enduro) and camping gear (Yosemite and Mexico). 2 years ago I completed a 30 day road trip coast to coast so I’m not favoring changing my gear ratios. I’d love to improve my off the line performance but not at cost of winding high on the open highway. Besides, it’s not a race car.
Having a hard time shaking off the challenge of the trans’ swap (my ego’s getting the best me). How ever if it doesn’t fit I’ll have to “shut her down” on such foolish thinking. Lol.
Any Ideas?
