Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Does the I-5 engine have an oil level sensor on the side of the oil pan, like the Chevy V8 engines have? Could he be having an oil level light, thinking he’s low on oil and not low oil pressure light coming on?
It sure does not seem like he’s got a pressure issue as he’s not complaining of lifter ticking or any engine noises, and he’s got 100 miles on it? It is weird it goes off when he give it more RPM’s? That leads me back to the oil pump pickup tube o-ring?
Did you find a shop with a Tech 2 that can scan and watch what’s going on?
Oil light comes on when oil pressure reading to the OPS is below 5psi. Off idle the oil has the ability to increase pressure through the pickup screen above 5psi to prevent (((oil light warning))). Oil pressure test should be done immediately to prevent premature engine failure! Oil pump pickup screen:
Not a compression check; PRESSURE CHECK! Compression means increase in density or change in volume, while pressure is a force applied on the surface. Post an update on oil pressure reading @idle.
yea I say so much in a day even I get mixed up that’s what I meant Wednesday I’ll post update

Update said in park at idle it’s 12 psi in gear it’s 8psi ? Said motor is gone
Bummer! What is the oil pressure at 2500 RPM’s? Did they only check at idle? It might not be a total loss. Park it, drain your new oil and send it in to see if they find bearing material in the oil. If little to none, then it might be ok and just need a new oil pump.
If it truly is shot, see if you can find a rebuilt short or long block. Or if theirs a reputable engine rebuilder in your area. Where are you located?
There was a guy in San Diego selling his H3 awhile ago with a 3.7, and he had found and put a low milage used motor in his. Maybe that’s a cheaper option for you?
