Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
What diagnostics has this "mechanic" done so far to come up with this hypothesis above?
Any oil pressure readings? OBDII vs actual pressure gauge readings?
he’s done all work on it so far no oil presser reading just obd and it pulls 0 codes I’ve read up on it for hours a lot had this issue someone said just unplug it lol while others have spent 1000s on replacing oil pumps big Tear downs just have oil light come right back on it did throw code po520 once then it never did again ??? Idk I’m lost at this point
Update so after I did motor oil flush at 300 miles and replaced with acdelco filter and Mobil one oil still was doing same thing, oil light it’s staying steady so I replaced the oil sending unit. still oil light stays on so i ordered oe gm oil sending unit went 15 miles down road, came home still same thing. at this point Mechanic said motor gone or one last shot. I also order pigtail the oil sending unit plug to get it replaced. honestly I’ve put a lot in this hummer barely been 2 months I’m kinda burnt out. I love it but experience so far is been honest a nightmare
How many OPS replacements so far? THE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME NOW? Any excessive noise(rattle/tapping/knocking,etc) from the engine? Normal power accelerating & driving? Why can't your mechanic check engine oil pressure?
Depending on your answers to q's above, this could be a clusterfvck or pcm issue.

3 counting the original one I took off I don’t hear anything abnormal noise neither did 2 shops i took it to power fine shifts fines drives absolutely fine I was just driving one day it started and never went away I’m getting all that done tue oil pressure check and pigtail replaced throws 0 codes this point I’m lost at sea

Unable to decipher? Missing Q: Is the light on ALL the time, no matter what the rpm's R?

what are you unable to understand? When I give it gas it goes away. I idle it’s comes back on. I’m taking it to the shop Tuesday to get oil pressure check and connector to the oil sending unit replaced.
I don’t have any experience with the I-5 but I’d guess the oil pump is similar to the V8 engine and has a o-ring on the pick up tube to the pump. On the Chevy V8 engines that a common issue and you get a fluctuation oil pressure as oil is bypassing the o-ring and not pulling through the pump, and is just falling back into the oil pan. But at higher RPM’s you are pulling enough oil through to not hurt the engine.
If your mechanic does not have a Tech 2 scanner, go somewhere else. He should be able to read your oil pressure at idle and at RPM on the Tech 2, and see if the signal is getting to the computer & dash.Like others have said you can pull the oil pressure sender and screw in a mechanical gauge and see what the pressure is. Next thing I’d do is see about dropping the oil pan and putting a pump in. Again I’m not sure of the difficulty and if you can pull the pan without lilting the the engine up? But that’s where I’d be going.

Got it, low oil pressure ONLY at idle. OPS is working, yet there is a huge pressure loss at idle. Internal problem(oil pump/seals) engine needs 1 psi oil pressure per 100rpms. @ idle it should be min 6-7psi, 5psi or lower will set the (((OIL LIGHT))). STOP throwing parts at it and check oil pressure at idle to verify!

how will he see the oil pressure on the I5 engine through the OBD scanner? These motors only have a light indicator. Pressure is not measured.
