help asap outta town oil light keeps coming on
Maybe I missed it? What engine? 3.5, 3.7 or 5.3?
I don’t have any experience with the I-5 but I’d guess the oil pump is similar to the V8 engine and has a o-ring on the pick up tube to the pump. On the Chevy V8 engines that a common issue and you get a fluctuation oil pressure as oil is bypassing the o-ring and not pulling through the pump, and is just falling back into the oil pan. But at higher RPM’s you are pulling enough oil through to not hurt the engine.
If your mechanic does not have a Tech 2 scanner, go somewhere else. He should be able to read your oil pressure at idle and at RPM on the Tech 2, and see if the signal is getting to the computer & dash.Like others have said you can pull the oil pressure sender and screw in a mechanical gauge and see what the pressure is. Next thing I’d do is see about dropping the oil pan and putting a pump in. Again I’m not sure of the difficulty and if you can pull the pan without lilting the the engine up? But that’s where I’d be going.

you need to check the pressure with a mechanical gauge. If you changed the oil pump, then you need to check the pressure relief valve with a clogged filter. It is in the engine block. You can see it with the filter removed. If it is not working, then the oil simply flows into the crankcase. General Motors25014612. But this is if your system and the oil pressure sensor itself are working. If your hydraulic lifters are not knocking, then everything is fine. Put a pressure sensor from Opel antara 12635957. There have been many cases where the original was a marriage. I had the same

yea I heard they always read kinda high I hook both my scanners up it’s never over 205-209 on hotter days
Looks good to me. In the past I've seen oil turn dark after a couple minutes running fresh oil & check level on customer's oil changes. #SeaFoamWorks

Not a compression check; PRESSURE CHECK! Compression means increase in density or change in volume, while pressure is a force applied on the surface. Post an update on oil pressure reading @idle.
Does the I-5 engine have an oil level sensor on the side of the oil pan, like the Chevy V8 engines have? Could he be having an oil level light, thinking he’s low on oil and not low oil pressure light coming on?
It sure does not seem like he’s got a pressure issue as he’s not complaining of lifter ticking or any engine noises, and he’s got 100 miles on it? It is weird it goes off when he give it more RPM’s? That leads me back to the oil pump pickup tube o-ring?
Did you find a shop with a Tech 2 that can scan and watch what’s going on?
