AC Blower fix
Great posts. I pulled out the resistor and just for the heck of it, tried the blower. It worked. Most of the time it would work unless I turned it a certain way. I figured I could put it back together and get back to it when I had more time. Then I put thing in upside down so that the resistor hit the blades of the fan when I tried it again. I quickly turned the fan off, but when I pulled the thing back out, I could see the fan blades gave it a good wack. Put it in the right way, fan still turns on but makes a terrible vibration sound in position 3 and 4 - runs smooth in position 1 and 2. So I figure maybe I screwed up the fan blade and the fan is out of balance now causing a vibration. My question, could the excessive heat build up in the resistor cause the fan to run too fast and vibrate? Basically, should I try to buy a new resistor, or just start getting quotes on a whole new fan replacement. I get lucky being able to do a few things reading these excellent posts, but I feel like I really screwed up on this one by not being careful and letting the resistor hit the fan blades. I'm hoping for any clarification, but not "you should buy the resistor first, then go to the shop, those fans are expensive!" I don't really understand if a resistor could be bad or damaged, or if it is more like a fuse (works or dies trying). Education for the newby anyone?
try to see the fan, broken, missing blades. maybe something got stuck on it,with a lot of luck!. mirror?,light?.
a resistor reduces volts. its either good or open. picture two lights in series, each gets 6 volts,3 in series,4 volts. res drop volts but dont light up!!
in power circuits they get hot so here they get cooled in air stream.
here they are all in series and in the high speed position they are jumped out with a relay mounted nearby.
if a position is dead, but high speed works, relay is good, some res are open
oh, if you are REALLY lucky, really, and you find a missing blade/segment on the fan,AND, if you could possible break another one exactly opposite the missing one,,,well you get it,,,a lot of luck required . its been done

Thanks so much drtom. The mirror gave me insight on the fact that every plastic blade was broken. It took me an hour, but I finally took the fan out. It only comes in and out one way and I have concerns about putting two of the screws back in... but I am enjoying the adventure of it. If I fail, the dealership says around $300 to replace it. Thanks for the education and your good advice.
There is more than one thing that can cause this to happen.
1. Low idle RPM. Check to be sure your Hummer is idling at the correct RPM. I believe the correct numbers are 800 - 1000 RPM.
2. Check radiator and condenser to make sure the air flow is not blocked by anything, insects, leaves, fuzzies, etc.
3. You could have a defective clutch fan, the engine cooling fan. It has a thermostat on it that engages when the temp goes up, and disengages when the engine cools or is traveling down the road with good air flow.
4. Make sure your serpentine belt is in good shape. Not stretched out and slipping at slow speed.
5. AC system is low on refrigerant. Check all of the above items first before tapping into your AC system. They all play an important role in keeping you cool on the inside of the vehicle.
Good luck, hopefully I didn't forget anything. Please let us know what you find.

Tricia, GM Customer Service.
Tricia, STFU! It is a 2006 and not under warranty! You are not needed. Your canned responses and lack of ANY actual help on ANY of the HUMMER forums show this! Please, find another GM brand forum and funnel/heard another group of GM vehicle owners into dealerships and leave us alone!
