Default Fixed

Hey guys, mine went out two days ago on my 2008 H3 (50,600) and my bumper to bumper stopped at 50,000 haha It was a blessing though because now I researched what was going on and found this thread. I pulled my resistor and sure enough but I went a different route than soldering all the prongs etc. I noticed just the one on the end was the one going out so I cut away the edge on the red connector, used a wire cap with electrical tap on the burnt one, after I cleaned it up then plugged the other prongs into the original red connector and electric taped it up. Wish I found this thread sooner because yesterday was 100 degrees out and very uncomfortable. Took me all but 15 minutes and so many cents for the wire cap. Good luck to anyone else with the same situation.

ohh and another thing, I didn't want to have to take off the glove compartment door or unhook the whole wiring harness so I did all the work from within my vehicle, which reduced the work time quite significantly. I did consider soldering but my gun was not small enough. That's when I came up with the other solution. Still working (knock on wood) and sorry I didn't take any pics. Thanks again for this great thread.

Wink Awesome Advice!!!

Ok so I'm a 27 year old chick and I fixed this myself!! Chevrolet dealership quoted me 350 to fix it and I bought the parts myself for 52 dollars! Didn't take me long and wasn't too terribly hard. Works like a champ now!!!!! I feel super handy/thrifty! :-) thank you for the post, so awesome!

This is what my resistor and connector looked like after it melted. I cut the original female connectors off and replaced them with new connectors, completely by-passing the red plastic harness. I first removed the plastic from the new connectors (so nothing else could melt) and manually opened them and secured them to the wires. It was super easy and my AC is working great.
