Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
I’m new to posting on here so sorry if something similar was already posted. I looked but haven’t found anything that fits my issues. My h3 went dead. Never go an oil light (light does work though) but dip stick was dry. Pull oil in. Pulled the battery out and had it tested. It was dead. Bought a new battery. Hooked it up. Multimeter showing 12.41. The lights on the panel, the radio, everything lights up now. Fuel pump clicks on. Throttle body clear and clean. Good connections on terminals. Will start to turn over. Even got it to crank a couple of times and sounded like it was running fine. Died again. Sounds weak turn to turn over, sometimes just a click. Hooked up a starter box and it was trying to turn over. I’ve checked everything I know. I can’t get her to crank and stay crunk. Anyone have something similar or an idea of what is going on with my h3?
ECM codes? Mileage? Any work done on it recently?
You'll need to charge the battery. Might be worth checking the connections to the starter and your grounds. Doc et al will ask if you have replaced the OEM battery terminals. Recheck the oil level.
If you are still trying to use the OEM Crappy Azzed Battery Terminal Connectors, hack them off and replace with Stingers or your favorite brand. The is no such thing as "good connections on the terminals" if you are still using the OEM connectors.
Is the PassLock thingy displayed in the Instrument Cluster when you try. You are also using confusing terms in your description. Crank = the starter turns the motor WITHOUT FIRING.... same with turn over, the starter is working but the engine is not FIRING. The questions is, when it turns over, does it fire at all then stall?
Yes, charge the batter, should be 12.6 Volts resting.
If you ran it dry of oil, there may be damage/excessive wear causing the engine to be more difficult to turn over?? Did you put oil in and confirm proper full level on the dipstick?
Easy stuff... You have an OLD vehicle, you should have a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner in your tool kit. Use it to CLEAN your ignitionswitch connections! Pics courtesy of hummerz.
