Power steering noise when cold?
Has anyone had an issue with their power steering pump sounding like you are out of fluid, but only when the weather is cold? Mine has done this for several years. It doesn't seem to get any worse. Fluid is full and clean. In cold weather, when I first start the truck, it seems like I am out of power steering fluid. After the engine warms up, the noise goes away. When the weather warms up, no sound problems at all. It's strange. Any experience? Thanks.
Power steering fluid is not as viscus in colder weather. Pump bearings wear over time. As long as the steering is fine I wouldn't worry. I would try and avoid really sharp, slow turns when the engine is cold. My Ford F-250 has been makin that noise for at least 5 years, still running strong.
