Man what you describe does not sound good. The loud "bang" you hear up front every once in a while when turning is most likely the chain slipping in your transfer case. When turning on dry pavemtn it puts a great deal of torque on the chain and eventually the chain stretches and begins to slip across the gear teeth. "Crow-hopping" or jumping when you're turning is correctable, loud bangs usually aren't. Not trying to be the bearer of bad news and I could be wrong, but it sounds very similar to a situation I had with a previous Grand Cherokee. Good Luck.

If I am not mistaken, 5 year/ 100,000 mile warranty only applies to 2007 and up GM vehicles.

2006 is not covered under the extended drivetrain coverage

Default lites ,no lites?

Hey all, When h3 owners have had a problem with the shift fork and the truck being stuck in 4 hi or 4lo, did the dash light indicator change as if the shift did occur,or did that stay stuck as well. Thanks the lites dont follow the action or lack of, they just lite when told there is "supposed to be" action,so it looks like youre ok,,when youre not

theres no feedback, closed loop type,to verify the action, you know when tires screach and jump.
very rough on tran clutches, gears,tc chains.
so i hear

Default shift fork

I hit a pot hole that was huge and heard and felt breaking. The dealer says that it is the shift fork and that since it is a normal occurance of 2006 H3s then it is not covered under my insurance claim. (which hitting a pot hole is considered a collision and covered under insurance). Note: the car quit steering both in tight turns and reverse turns right after i hit it . I say the hole caused the break. They say it would have happened anyway at anytime. I say prove it!

Thumbs up Plastic Shift Fork

Thanks everyone for your posts you certainly pointed me in the right direction and saved me a lot of $$$$. Had my vehicle checked by a Hummer technician and to no surprise it was the plastic shift fork. I even talked to GM and they paid 50% of the repair under their good will program since it was out of warranty. Mileage when problem occurred 57,000 Miles.

Thanks again
