My tranny rebuild was roughly $2500. If you plan OK keeping the hummer I would ditch the tranny you have and go 4l80. Not sure what that might cost tho.

I can't disagree. The 4L80 will last a lot longer. GM should have never put the 4L65e in the hummer.

I googled prices on these things & I'm really confused. I saw 2WD for $1500. No idea what the 4wd version runs.

I came across a 6 speed 4L80e. I know, strange, right? That would be a really nice option! 4L80E Performance Transmission from PATC ,4L80E (scroll down a bit).

The 4l65e is what you have now. Not sure on programming for 4l80

I did a very quick google search for swapping a 4l65e to 4l80e. This thread came up: 4l65e to 4l80e swap help

Seems like a lot of people have done it or discussed it. It's doable. Costwise, I don't know. If you plan on keeping your H2, moving to a 4l80 would be great. A 6l80 would be ideal if you ever want to drop the 6.2 (or corvette engine) in there (if you can afford it, both are nice engines). Just throwing some thoughts out there. There's a ton of issues & a lot of fixes for problems. Just depends on how far forward you want to plan for, budget & how technical some options are.

Dropped the trans pan off today. I cant really see any shinny metal stuff in the oil but I can see there is like black carbon like stuff in the pan. See picture
