That's why you use the 1k resistor in series. It brings the voltage to a safe level

I see your point about the current limiter but I would still be worried about the 914s forward operating current I'm pretty sure at 1k your pretty close to the ceiling at 12V no?

Default pls reread previous posts

ive mentioned stuff you are asking about.
read slowly and think.
im a poor typist so i get frust,,,
i never measured the volts!,,they used 680 ohms for their leds. i used 2, 820 or 1000 ohm .
2x1000 =2000!!.
thats less than 6 ma.at 12v so dont sweat the small stuff that i have already been using since last july 2009!!!

if you did blow a part the total list is apx 5 bucks!!

so worry about the MECHANICALS that i mentioned on page 1!!!

the parts work

if u reread you will find mention of possible use of wires on the plug for the board,,that i did not explore.

kiss,,means keep it simple xxxxxx

You could be right.....I'm good at 12 volt vehicle wiring, but I only know enough about electronic circuitry to be dangerous. That's why I've been checking everything with drtom, but I think I've used my quota. The flashing led I'm looking at is a Radio Shack model #276-036, which requires 2.25 volts typ., 2.6 volts max. at 90ma forward voltage, which calculates to a 150ohm 1.2 watt resistor. I don't know how to determine if that will or will not work with the 914 blocking diode.

Default trust me

same led im using as shown in cheap drawing, about 6-10ma, its bright

ifn u run 90 ma it will hurt ure eyes and melt sooner

the wheel has been invented , it rolls,no need for further invention,,,,,EXCEPT IN MECHANICAL AS MENTIONED IN FIRST LINE!!!

you can find better ways to connect, and place components
