So the metal tube replaces the corrugated plastic tube and the black plastic box. What's the function of the black box?

Anyone have a pic of the OEM tube?

It is an expansion chamber in reverse, and air intake baffle to keep down noise??? which there really is not much of, and in extreme cold, to allow some warming of the air charge. AKA, it don't do much, but GM has to make these things for everyone in any environment.

OK. I'm getting into this thread now
First off, is the TrueFlow JUST the air duct? How much is that?
Second, how much more of an improvement would one expect going with a CAI kit over just the replacement K&N Filter?
I have the filter now, but didn't realize the TrueFlow kit existed. If you use that to replace the factory air intake box and keep the filter air intake box, and use a K&N Filter, wouldn't you almost get the exact same effect as a complete CAI kit?
Is it really worth getting a complete CAI kit over just the filter? I would go for the TrueFlow, but I'm not goin gto spend over $100 just for a plastic air duct. That's for sure.

I read that someone actually tested using just a K&N filter with everything else stock and saw no improvement at all because the stock tubing is too restrictive.
I know somting about intake air, it could fill a thimble on a good day. IMO the weakest link is the filter. Once you upgrade to a K&N or other market varieties, I agree with pool_shark, the stock system sets the limit. You gotta do a PIPE and get rid of the stock rubber flex couplers and box. I doesn't take a leap of faith to look at the stock system and see air flow is disrupted when compared to a smoothly bent tube and smooth couplers!!
Any body got pipe[sm=smokin.gif]?

I installed the LOANER PCM from PCM4LESS.com. I had a hell of a time restarting my H3!! The Security reset was having problems relearning. On the 4th try it restarted. It took an hour.
I mailed my OEM PCM back to Kelly to get it reprogrammed. I can't waits to check out the differences.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
