Go with the TrueFlow

Short version.
Get it all. The true flow is a great package. It can be made with pipe and silicone boots, cheap. But mailorder is easier. That little pipe on the front is for the Colorado and Canyon.
The throttle body spacer does work. I have only seen the results on a Colorado because we do not have access to a four wheel dyno here.
Spend about $20 bucks at a muffler shop. Cut off the big honkin rear muff and install a down pipe on the passenger side tucked up like it was on the other side. If you want results and not looks of duals for that last couple of feet. Think of the gains of no muffler compared to low restriction and $$$$. It is not loud. I did mine about 12,000 miles ago. Pulling a boat it humms a little more than normal. It has a deep sound offroad pulling hills. The last shot shows why cool duals will not survive in the wild.
Thena PCM set for more positive shifts and hold them a little longer. All of this will stop the constant downshifting while in the hills or towing. Works for me!

No muffler!!!? Just the Cat? That has to be loud by most standards.[:-]

Good comparison!! So the metal tube replaces the corrugated plastic tube and the black plastic box. What's the function of the black box?

 

You still have either a resonator or premuff however you want to say it. It sort of sounds like the old Cherry Bombs we had and turned around backwards to let more sound out by skipping over the little vanes aimed forward. Instead of dropping $800 cut off the final big muffler.If it is too loud for your wife put it back. It really is not loud. Idle it has just a little rumble. Gun it and it gets a little raspy but not bad. You won't be out much to have a shop cut it and fire it up. How that happened on mine was they cut it off and I was going to put a Magna flow on. They went to the stock shelf and, whoops, don't have one. Be here in two days. Sooooo we put the down pipe on and hmmm not bad. The other option is add back a low restriction muff that is physcally smaller that won't drag and has a little more sound, or turn up the XM!

OK. I'm getting into this thread now

First off, is the TrueFlow JUST the air duct? How much is that?

Second, how much more of an improvement would one expect going with a CAI kit over just the replacement K&N Filter?

I have the filter now, but didn't realize the TrueFlow kit existed. If you use that to replace the factory air intake box and keep the filter air intake box, and use a K&N Filter, wouldn't you almost get the exact same effect as a complete CAI kit?

Is it really worth getting a complete CAI kit over just the filter? I would go for the TrueFlow, but I'm not goin gto spend over $100 just for a plastic air duct. That's for sure.

 

Here is an idea for a real cold air intake. That of course depends on the outside air temp!
Here is a shot of the actual end snorkle size.
And a shot of a prototype full size tube without necking it down at both ends like the TruFlow. Still need to make a transition to stock box.
