'06 H3 with P0442 code
Engine light came on so I had O'Reillys check for code but all they told me was that it's something in the evap system. Want to take care of this but need as much detailed info as possible so I don't start taking things apart that don't need to.

Try a search, this is basic stuff. Been beat in the ground like a rail road spike.

Did you just fill up your rig before the code popped up?
After reseating the fuel filler cap did you clear the code manually?
The code will not clear right away. You may have fixed it and don't know yet.

I believe it has to go through the purge before it will clear if you have fixed it. A search would be a good idea because I read for about 2 hours on it and was just lucky mine was the has ca.

Everyone has great advice on the topic. Next on the list is the evap vent valve. As the vehicle ages the little plunger stops sealing properly. Unfortunately it is a remove and replace. A proper check requires a scan tool and a smoke machine. If there is a different way to check the vent valve someone post it.

just take it and have smoke test done it will pinpoint right away. I just did the evap purge vale and canister a bunch of other leaks. 2 months ago now same code which they tell me now vent valve on gas tank. Which of course replace the tank and seal $1252. Extended warranty excludes this but not the other evap system work was all covered $3k. Good luck

Lol! We're really friethening ya hay!!!
It's real simple to do this stuff....
Brand new gas cap - ACDelco GT306 GM Original Equipment Fuel Tank Cap $24 at Amazon
Brand new evap vent solenoid - ACDelco 214-2149 Professional Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid $19
A piece of evap hose and two stainless steel clamps.
Done.
Have done this a few times on both H3.
On the slight chance it is a hose leaking you'll be one step closer to figuring it out.
