Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
I'm helping a friend with a 2009 H3 Alpha with 90K miles in Fort Worth TX. She just had here transmission replaced. She was lucky as GM now listed only one other rebuilt transmission left in the US (Ohio). The engine mounts need to be replaced and the dealer said there are no left engine mounts to be found (part #25847738). I've confirmed this during checks with other sources and internet searches. The right engine mount is common with other GM products and available. The transmission mount is available, but few remain.
The engine mounts I've replaced over the years on many different vehicles have typically been common or symmetrical. When looking at pictures of the H3's V8 engine mounts, the core of the mounts appear to be common, but there is an adaptor attached to the left engine mount which makes it different (see below). I've suggested to the dealership to buy 2 right mounts then take the adaptor hardware off the original left mount and added it to one of the new mounts. They are reluctant to do this.
Has anyone else replaced the left V8 engine mount this way? Any other options? Thank you for your help.
Thanks, hmmerz. Yesterday, the dealership agreed to the repairing the left engine mount using a right mount as a donor for attachment to the original mounting plate. Good news for others that might need a left engine mount for their V8.
The only rivets I see are the heat shield on the right engine mount and thin plate on the left mount. The right engine mount bolts to the left's adaptor plate.
The owner is happy to have her Hummer H3 back and running well. I am not aware if the right engine mount was installed on the left's adaptor plate with heat shield or if those riveted parts were swapped out.
That sucker is riveted together. If I'm understanding things correctly, they'll have to remove the rivets and bolt it back together. Is that right?
Look again, you will clearly see the rivets are to secure the heat shield to the mount, not to the adapter plate. 4 studs/nuts secure the mount to the adapter plate.

Not, since the right mount has a better shield to protect the rubber.

Man, I guess I am blind or else those top views were just added! I didn't see the bolts until just now. Sorry...
