Default H3 Alpha

Just picked up a 2010 H3 Alpha with the offroad package. I've had a 99 h1 since 2009, just wanted something else to drive around and wheel in. I've been to moab a couple times and my h1 wont be ready this year so I was thinking about taking this one. What all can I do to help it keep up with my h1? Would an intake, exhaust and a tune help a little for power and mileage? Are there any common problems with these that I should address? It looks like 35's will fit with a little torsion bar twist, what would it take to fit 37's?

Welcome to HF.

2010 H3 Alphas have the LH9 motor. Due to a 1 year only run of the LH9 in the H3/H3T, no hand held tuners available for the 2010 models. PCMofNC.com can tune your pcm or a tuner near you.

35s will fit no problem without a torsion bar adjustment. The Tbar adjustment is more to level the rig front to back.

37" tire on OEM 16" wheels will fit on the H3 with a 1" Daystar body lift and trimming of the front inner fender and the rear "shark fin". The removal of the shark fin is a little more difficult as you will have to cut the body seam then weld the seams back together @ the point where they where cut. If you do not remove the fin your tires will rub A LOT during compression. They tuck nicely into the rear wheel well with only slight rubbing on the inner fender plastic at full compression.

#1 thing I would do is purchase protection. UCP & Rock rails Rocky Road makes them with a rear "kicker" now. I highly recommend them. H3 Rock Sliders: Hummer H3 Rock Sliders, and Kicker rock sliders PM me for the UCP.

I was wheeling on 37s with a 2010 H3 Alpha OffRoad package for a long time without issues. I would have liked to regar to 4.56:1 over the 4.10:1 stock in the Alpha. Let me know what other information you may need.

Thank you, that was extremely helpful. Hopefully I'm not being a pain with all the questions, I don't know much about h3's and the colorado hummer event is coming up very soon so I'm trying to get ready.

What are most doing for a CB mount and antenna? I have a mag mount and uniden 520xl in my h1. I like the CB for its size and simplicity and the mount keeps it accessible. I think I'd rather do a more permanent antenna mount on the h3 though, but without cutting up the body any. Are through the glass antennas any good?

Also I have efi live, so I could do a custom tune and reflash, does anyone sell efi live tunes for a lh9? What are some spare parts I should carry with me? Is there a cai and exhaust you'd recommend? What about a lower temp thermostat and spark plugs. Is the stock gap ok or are people gapping a little closer, I know the 8.1 vortec likes a 0.045 gap vs the stock 0.060.

Thanks again.

Also I can't seem to send a PM, but I would definitely like to do some ucp on this as it's practically a new vehicle. Are the rear diff and shock mount skid plates a good investment?

I like it because the mic has all of the functions on it and the head is in the dash. I believe Uniden makes a similar unit if you prefer that brand. Most prefer to mount the antenna between the spare and rear door.

Also I have efi live, so I could do a custom tune and reflash, does anyone sell efi live tunes for a lh9? I have no idea if anyone has a downloadable tune for the LH9. I've never wanted for more power.

What are some spare parts I should carry with me? half shaft or 2 depending on your wheeling style (completely different animal to wheel than the H1), 16mm tie rods and the usual tools to swap these parts out.

Is there a cai and exhaust you'd recommend? AirDoc CAI for the Alpha Air Doc H3 Alpha Performance Intake System

AFE PRO DRY filter (no oiling, just wash)

, I like the MagnaFlow exhaust. Nice rumble, NOT LOUD and obnoxious.

What about a lower temp thermostat and spark plugs. Is the stock gap ok or are people gapping a little closer, I know the 8.1 vortec likes a 0.045 gap vs the stock 0.060. I tried a 160 degree thermostat with no discernible change in cooling. Stand alone trans cooler with a thermostat controlled fan will be your biggest cooling aid. Factory SPARK PLUG GAP is 0.040. It is an all aluminum motor that was set up pretty much spot on from the factory. I would prefer less delay programmed into the gas pedal.

Thanks again.
Hope these suggestions help.

Several HUMMER owners make different types. Full ladder style (CBPhoto & OEM), smooth belly pan style (Knight Metal Works), etc. .

Are the rear diff I use a 999 OffRoad solid diff cover an have never looked back. https://999offroad.com/product/gm-10...iff-cover-8-6/

and shock mount skid plates a good investment? In my opinion protecting the front mount of the leaf spring is more important than the shock mount although I have both. I'll see if my buddy has a set of the weld on leaf spring mount protectors left.
Hanger Skidz

Shock mounts, no longer made sorry, but you can see the ladder style UCP in this photo.

Sorry, I don't post any personal contact info on open forums. Keep posting and you will be able so send a PM soon.

If you are planning on wheeling your H3 Alpha OffRoad with 37s you will want several parts from www.outfitterdesign.com. I have used and abused ALL of the items below and they have held up. In order of importance:

H3 D.I.Y. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BUSHING KIT
