Red face 3rd light out...diy rebuild

Like title says. 3rd light was half dead. Took everything apart and did some testing. LED's all would operate with a 9v battery feeding them one at a time.
Just took some alligator clips and tested piece by piece. Was able to then test whole board/heat sink/bastardized mess.
Figured it was the regulator LM317s. Tried multiple ways to remove it but not even my hot air work station cranked to max would touch it.
****....

Gave up and just sanded the board down with a flap disk on my angle grinder. Really wanted to save the oem stuff.
In the end used an self adhesive style LED strip (red) and notched the old housing to fit .
It works and it didn't cost $100-$250 dollars LOL!

I just really like keeping stuff original wherever possible.
IDK if this has anything to do with my other thread (C0136) error? But I figured it had to be fixed any who!

Sorry NO pics. There are some great threads out there to be read and researched.

Nice work. My 4 for 99cents are still working 6yrs later, and I still have 2 for backup. I cut my strips to fit/mount on the OEM board, and soldered the wires, tucked in. Looks OEM unless someone removes the housing and looks inside. Btw:

I figure you might respond at some point. Thanks.
The weird thing is using my Vident scanner [the one you recommerecommended, thanks] I can see all the data and what not.
I literally can not find anything amiss. I'm going to do some reading in service manual about this and try to test some more stuff for this C0136.
What would you look at first?

Yes, inspect the connectors/contacts and spray away. Pull the white retainer clip to release connector. This vid shows the connector released start @1:15:
