Default center high light explored

while snooping inside the rear hatch i decided to yank the door trim and have a look.
the top led EXLENSIVE light was really my target. i wanted to see just why it costs apx $130,( for a stinkin light). it appears some engineer got a gift of making a toy to play with and the daxmed thing got put into production. why should this ,one of dozens of lights,be a $130 led? when the others are good old cheap incandesant, not EVEN a twisted mercury light in sight.

here are pix to show the frame, solid state circuit board with a string of leds, and the electrocics to drive them. looks like some voltage regulators,or current, and then the plastic lens cover.

it simply sits behind the glass, looking like it is attached.

ill follow this soon with a 5 or 10 buck light bulb replacement, and maybe a troubleshooting guide to do a cheap fix on the led board. its ez to guess that the problems are mostly in the power supply parts, not the leds. first guess

Default update

good news. while looking for a light fixture that is hiding somewhere in my junk,
i found one to test soon. what i can easily see is that there is a ton of room there which was my orig question b 4 i pulled it. im sure theres stuff waiting at a z or adv that can be fitted with like a 1157? brake light. oops are the leds red?!! i forget now that the thing is inside. if we need red than some paint/etc/red tape would be needed.

ill get this all tested tonite or morn. "the fix" is near!!

well yeah the're red all right!!. im going shopping

For $20 you could buy this, keep one, sell one for $10, cobble and mount it in your housing. Amazon.com: LED FOG LIGHTS - RED: Automotive

I'm glad you posted this, I had to go out and look myself. <facepalm>

This reminds me of the side marker lights on my H2 which are also manufactured in a similar fashion...led's...pcb...etc. which for the record are $240 to replace from the dealer.
I have been planning to come up with a "solder it yourself" replacement but been too busy.
The second one that went out got replaced by me taking the bad pcb drilling a hole in it to mount a single MR12 marine led and wiring it to match. Problem solved and unless someone removes the cover they will never know.

Im in the middle of this as well. I found some red LEDs at auto zone for about 15 bucks. they come as a pair of four inch strips and only need a 12v power source to work. Im trying to match the factory plug that goes to the existing circuit board.
Probably gonna mess with it more this weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Since I posted this link yesterday, they became 'Unavailable'.....wonder what that's all about? Maybe contact Street-glow direct and see if they've been discontinued.

Just did some research.....they've been discontinued....BUT....I found them on clearance at Streetglow for $9.99! I ordered a set of amber ones also. Both sets, with shipping, $29! http://www.streetglow.com/Catalog/Fog-Lights
