center high light explored
first,i think the reason for the "long life" led assm is the difficulty getting at the light. removing any trim is messy at best. you might see in my pix that its about 50/50 metal clips vs plastic releasing.so if the leds never go bad ure in luck.
but if/when they die,its $130 now and who knows in 2-3 years.
so, "THE FIX", FOR 99 CENTS is now here.
the 211 bulbs,2 pak is $1.98. you gotta come up with a socket first time around. i found one i was using for emergency lighting and cut it up to fit the enclosure minus the led assm and its 8x lens. i used the outside lens to maintain the appearance and put 2 layers of red elcheapo tail light fix tape on the inside to make it red. the leds were red.
so ill run it for while and see how it looks.
this is just some fun to see how to beat high prices for an unnecessary item, one old fashioned light bulb
now that i have the led assm to mess with, ill look at how to fix a bad one. its all surface mount and the component surface looks like,,,tape" , tape direct on the aluminum heatsink! so i installed the trim in the h3 and it looks good, nice brite red "light" bulb.
later, i wanted to see how bright the leds got and how much current the leds took. ! surprise, i brought the volts up slow and they kicked in at apx 6v and what a flash.using a current limit supply, the volts pulled down and i tweaked it up more,SO BRIGHT I WAS AFRAID OF IT. till i double checked the wiring. sure enuf its direct to 12 v but so brite i didnt continue. the current was very low, ,.1 amp.
the 211 bulb takes apx 1 amp but that line is switched with the other brake lites so its ok.
another "FIX IS IN"
wed nite edit. the lite looked good inside, but when installed the dark window blocks it too much so i will try a brighter bulb.
ya mite say its a "dim bulb huh",,,i might as well get that out of the way!!, also,"not too bright!"
