But the part of the equation that is nearly always overlooked in these discussions is durability and longevity.
Hell, with the right mods you can get a lawn-mower engined mini-bike to run like it's hair is on fire...for a short while anyway.

These inline motors are designed with longevity in mind from the factory, and have also been tested at great length to provide maximum performance.

If it was simply as easy as adding a new filter or intake tube to get 10 free horsepower throughout the entire horsepower curve, the factory would have likely done that rather than bore the engine from 3.5 to 3.7.
you are so right, dead on!

Who said anything about "flooring it?" Tell us you've never ran your truck at 4750 RPM.

You have some truths in there, but you have imputed way too much competency to GM engineers, a good many of those clowns couldn't find their azz in a hat basket under bright light. You forgot the focus on doing chit on the cheap, nobody build s vehicle the best that it can possibly be since the bean counters want it brought in on budget. The very reason the aftermarket exists, fill in where the clowns lost there way after a cost analysis meeting.

Performance mods are like keeping a Sig on your belt, better to have it when you need it, than need it when you don't have it.

I've pulled 202 with my 07 on 33s at 40PSI, but it has a bunch more than just an intake. Considering a bone stock 3.7L H3 pulls about 173-175, I'd say picking up 100% reliable 25HP & TQ ain't bad.

As to H3 I5 exhaust, by itself, does virtually nothing except provide some sound. You can make some HP with a gutted Mini-Cat or with a header, but that's a different story. A better flowing exhaust works well with other mods, but the proven biggest bang for the buck is a PCM Tune and an intake, followed closely by an Efan conversion.
Hey bud, using the word daft is a nicer way of saying stupid so please hold your tongue. If you fully read, which it appears you did, I asked anyone to correct me if they actually new better. I appreciate your posting of the dyno charts. I have found a few chevy's I've owned to gain little in a usable range by installing an intake. I did forget to mention the HP #'s I quoted were a hopeful output at the flywheel only. Until seeing your dyno sheet, I have yet to see any 'real' data on drive train loss.

Looking at your charts I'd say keeping my 200+ is a better choice. Again, I may alone here but I ain't racing desert or dragging light to light. You gained 11hp and 12ftlb for a lot of money at 4500rpm's. I don't need (imagine you don't either) HP in the 4k+ range but bwt 1500-3kish. How often can you use that gain in 'normal' conditions? Honestly, if I could throw away that money and not blink an eye I would but it doesn't appear to pay off under 99% of conditions. I do wonder if anyone has ever done a dyno run with a snorkel though? - At least that would look cool too. Again thanks for the info - No offense meant here with my thoughts and I hope you understand my response to the daft comment.
