Speedometer Erratic After Removing Needle
I had disassembled the instrument panel display to do some soldering to get the PRNDL display to light up. In doing so I had to remove the needles on all gauges to get to the circuit board. When I put everything back together only the speedometer was not working; it stayed stuck at about the 4 MPH mark. I took the speedo needle back off and carefully adjusted the needle to point to 0 MPH. When I started it up again it appeared to work but was still about 3 to 4 MPH. After a few more miles down the road it stuck at 40 MPH and never dropped back down. Before disassembling I had seen 2 different methods for marking gauge needles before moving them: one being marking the location with tape and a pen and the other was to move every needle counterclockwise until it would stop (supposedly stopping exactly at the zero mark). I chose the option of rotating all needles counterclockwise then removed each needle. I am not certain why only the speedometer is acting up and am wondering if somehow merely removing and reattaching the needle could have damaged the stepper motor? Any thoughts on how to get it working accurately again? On a positive note I was able to get the PRNDL display to light up after apply solder.
