I had my shop replace the canister and they had to blow out the lines, they were full of charcoal beads, and stopping the fuel from going into tank, the shop told me from now on, don’t top off the tank, when the fuel nozzle pops, fill to the next dollar and stop….

Something is lost in translation here.

The charcoal canister is tiny, and has a tiny line.
It is not inline with fuel delivery.
The filler neck is huge.
How would a bit of charcoal in the filler neck that was washed out of the charcoal canister stop gas from getting into the tank?
How can it completely plug up a filler neck? The charcoal dust/beads/tiny chunks would just wash down into the tank.
How could it plug up the filler neck?

Makes no sense to me. What am I missing? Please help me understand.

The canister absorbs fuel vapors while filling, when plugged vapors would flow out the filler neck causing the pump to shutoff, as it does when the tank is full.

Yes, that was my confusion. Thanks for clarifying. Makes complete sense. I thought he meant fuel line. Not sure why I read it the way I did :0

Ok Life finally let me get around to changing the charcoal canister. same thing. I can't pump gas into this thing. I've changed the canister and the Evap solenoid. no change. I get no codes and its a 10 min process to fill up.

I Guess the next thing is trying to blow out the lines. anyone have any idea, if the tank need to come down or can i just pull the evap lines at the charcoal canister and blow into the fuel filler neck?

you have to remove the beads that have a broken bag and went down the tubes to the tank, there blocking the vent allowing the fuel gases to return through the canister, you will have to drop the fuel tank and remove the lines to the canister, replace canister and use a blow gun and blow out the lines of the charcoal beads, once cleared of the beads you can reassemble the fuel tank , if you have not replaced your fuel pump by now, this is the best time to have it replaced……been there, done that….

Had this similar issue with my truck. When the canister went bad it sent chunks of charcoal down the vent hose clogging it.

I unhooked all the lines from the canister. Then wrapped a sock around my air compressor hose and shoved it down the filler neck and blew. Took about 10 minutes and shaking the vent hose to get it all out. Be careful not to over pressurize the tank and blow out any of the seals. You can actually see the tank “breathing” when you do it😂

after I did all that I got some 5/8 and 3/8 hose and a 3 way T and put it in place of the canister because F the government. It doesn’t even stink unless you’re filling it or it sits outside on a 100 degree day.
