Custom Digital Display Interface
not only that.. the cluster goes way farther than the H2 as many of the 2003 - 2007 powerplants are used for donor vehicles so a customizable cluster would be very well received. at worst case you can model the mother board itself around the gm board then have the screen part of it overlay and sandwich over the old bezel where the cluster needles would lay then they can just use there existing housing be it the h2 or any other GM as the motherboard formfactor layout is basically the same on the platforms. many manufacturers have switched to OLED screens because of the flexibility they have. they can be shaped pretty much in whatever form factor they need.

Probably would make it considerably more complex from a development standpoint but maybe add a BT chip and create a phone app to allow buyers to customize the appearance with different skins. Someone wants an analog look, sure, digital look no problem. Custom theme builder - "picture a must be formatted as a jpg no larger than xxxx kb and be exactly aaa x bbb pixels in size.
As I mentioned before - developing something like this for the GMT800 platform means it is technically applicable to all GM trucks and SUV's which is a much broader market. The first few years (1999-2002) did use a different electrical system than 2003-2007 models though but both are considered GMT800 platform vehicles. Still a wide market and the 99-07 trucks and SUV's are becoming very desirable for many due to their high reliability, low cost of parts, and ease of modifications.

It all sounds good, but would it be affordable. H2s aren't everywhere. They're not being produced either. They do have big followings it Japan and some other countries. It would almost have to be done as a hobby or research for other gm vehicles. It's pretty awesome tho. Lol, way above my skill level!
C57... it's about price and desirability and Rotech has already given it the WOW factor.
Add a few killer features, like maybe Bluetooth, WIFI, GPS tracking, Apple/Android app, ODB2 diagnostics, TPMS, back-up camera (as mentioned) plus it's replacing all those mechanical Servo's, what's not to like?
Being digital LCD/OLED opens the door to many opportunities and possibilities .....

Oceanbrave - did you change your avatar to an anigif recently or I have just never noticed that? lol
Yes I mentioned early in the thread that the same cluster is also used in other full size GM trucks and SUV's (Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade). I think without that additional potential market a project of this nature will be able to better take advantage of economies of scale in order to keep the cost reasonable. That will be a huge factor in acceptance. Most vehicle owners are going to be reluctant to spend anything over $1000 for eye candy and even $500 is a tough sell but that price point is doable as proven by places that specialize in custom clusters like US Speedo. So additional capabilities would be a huge upsell point. One Oceanbrave mentioned - OBDII diagnostics would be huge. To have something sort of like Torque built in would be a game changer. Possibly instead of something totally proprietary and custom maybe even look at a flavor of Android as the underlying OS to take advantage of all of the existing libraries of code that are already created and working.
Lots of potential but lots of pitfalls. Of course if it works and takes off the Chinese will quickly rip it off as well so one must also take that into consideration. I hope to see it come to fruition.
