Portal hub delete
Hi I am looking to build a military humvee up for civilian use and I want the Portal hubs off and run inboard and outboard brakes on the front and rear. But haven't had any luck finding anything about deleting the portal hubs and adding brakes any help will be appreciated also some things I am looking for info as well on switching to 12 volt I have a Duramax and a 10 speed, adding air ride seats, and electric HVAC. Thanks for any help with my project!

As someone else said, I'm not sure why you'd want to taks away one of the features that makes a Hummer H1 the beast that it is. These hubs gives tour truck the awesome ground clearance that it has and the 1.92:1 ratio gives your truck a little more torque to the road.
It's your truck though and if you did accomplish this conversion, it would be interesting to see the final result!. Off the top of my head, here are some things you'd have to consider:
- New hubs (probably off a 5 ton military truck)- and make them work
- Find axles that would work with above hubs
- Keep in mind the clearance loss if you did go off road, and the increased angle the Axleat which the axle would be mounted- you'd need a STRONG bullet proof unit
- Just go with large 12-14 inch 4 pot piston calipers, outboard brakes, not sure why you'd need both. Having both would require an additional master cylinder and something fabricated to mount one actuator arm (from brake pedal to master cylinder) to two master cylinders (custom)
- After market wheels with the correct offset, and wheel stud cutout for hub you find, and now since you'd have outboard brakes, the wheel would also have to have slots for cooling
good luck and keep us all posted!!
I found some mrap axels but can't find out if they are portal axles or not they are off a cayman I plan on making them Air Ride and I have been building inboard and out board brakes people think it's stupid but when they started driving them they liked them I also want to put air ride seats in as well if you go on government planet you can get a humvee for cheap especially if you don't care about the engine and transmission I àm using Duramax twin turbo supercharged engine with a 10 speed wide gear ratio and a splitter and I am looking at designing a multi speed differential and transfer case that could be used on several vehicles. I have been doing a lot of work with medium duty trucks and a lot of people for some reason aren't Into crew extended cabs but I am planning on bringing them back there was a company called centurion that made obs Ford crew cab broncos and crew extended cab dullys I am building crew extended cab international work star trucks with Eaton hybrid trans electric and diesel with corner windows and you can get them for cheap My goal with humvees is you can't put to big of motor in because of the portal axles and they are terrible to drive on the highway so í say if you can keep the ground clearance and off road capabilities but it dríves like a suburban on the road especially now since aftermarket all wheel steering is getting cheaper and why is the snorkel only on one side I say both sides sorry for ranting
Hey Fab4fun I saw your question and signed up to give you some info I know of, there are a couple kits available online that allow you to mount disc brakes on the hubs instead of up next to the diffs, these kits keep the geared hubs though. I think this might be the best scenario as the diff mounted brakes can be less effective and also put all the load on the half shafts and they have been known to snap under sudden sharp braking. you could put solid axles under the truck and that would make it very nice for towing and highway but it might be a lot of work, geared hubs seem to be pretty tough, I know I would like to install the hub mounted discs so I can tow safer and stop better. I love turning these humvees into nice daily drivers, just started my 2nd truck! Good luck with your build!
