there's been this hole in the bottom of my transmission since i got my truck a few years back. is there supposed to be some sort of plug covering this hole or what? seems kind of odd for it to be open like that. thx

 

I just looked and there is a cap covering mine. Not sure what it is but i am sure someone else will ring in here and tell ya.

 

A three-pronged metal dust cap belongs there.

 

Xlr8n is right, there is supposed to be a dust cap there. I wouldn't worry much though, they are about as thin as the walls of a soda can, and super easy to come off. Yours might have been scraped off if it was ever wheeled.

 

It is a small inspection plate/ cleanout for the bell housing. I think thye are about $5 at any Chevy/GMC dealer if you really need one. Heck they may have one lying on the floor at any trans shop also.

 

ok sweet, i'll have to pick one up. so since this thing has been open for quite some time should i spray out the inside with a hose to half a$$ clean it out before i plug it back up?
