Thats what happens when you go with 35s and such.

 

Ya that depends what tires you go with though. I know a handful of guys that went with 35" duratracs, and their mileage didn't move one bit on the highway. But thats with duratracs, the tires taken directly from Gods chariot. With more meaty tires, such as MT's, mpg will def go down.

 

Honestly, why do all the people you know with 35s get the same mpg as stock, and the people I know don't. Its a bigger tire, it weighs MUCH more, its wider, etc. No matter what, your truck will suffer. I live in flat country, and even with my all mighty PCM/AirDoc/Filter, etc, my truck downshift all the time. If I'm on the interstate, and I hit an overpass, I downshift. I rarely if never check my MPG, but I can tell you I have to stop at the pumps about 40-50 miles sooner per tank than I have the past few years. And I have travelled with 2 other H3s this year, and they both used about 1/4 tank less fuel than I. BTW, I run 315 Duratracs, aired to 40psi for everyday use (t-bars cranked, nerfs removed).

 

There are lots of guys I've talked to that have speed corrected themselves and they get 18-19mpg highway with over 400miles per tank. I currently get about 430ish miles per tank highway. Not EVERYBODY gets the same mileage, but the people that drive sensibly and know how to measure their mileage say they get similar to stock. The duratracs are an at, so they aren't as gas guzzling as an MT.


EDIT: In fact, I just found one. Look up surfin coastie; he gets 18mpg highway all day long with his 35" duratracs. Although he gets 14mpg city.

 

Larger tires = greater rolling radius = more power needed to propel vehicle = greater fuel consumption.

 

The Laws of Physics only apply if you believe in that sort of thing. Personally I think its a fad. I have begun converting my Hummer from petroleum to perpetual motion.

 

But keep in mind, a larger tire= better highway/cruising gear=lower rpm's turned at higher speed= faster speeds with lower rpms=better economy.

Dont b*tch at me, why dont you actually consult the people with 35's that calculate their mileage, and talk to them about it? Starting with surfin coastie, because I've had a talk with him about it and he can give you all the numbers and data you want regarding his 18mpg highway with 35's.

This part of your statement is true......if we were driving in a vacuum, with zero friction. The fact remains it take greater torque to get you/keep you moving, which results in greater fuel consumption.
