Agreed. That carrier looks like it bolts to the spare tire mount, which if so by time you get a full size spare, the rack, and the rack loaded you are putting A LOT of weight on the door. I'd imaging that rack does not have that high of a weight limit. I do like the looks of it, but it does not have the functionality IMO.

On a side note, anyone have a good bike rack/mount that does not use a hitch receiver. I'm looking into getting back into biking and I do not have a hitch receiver on mine.

 

This is mine (actually CBphotos again).I have had 3 full 5 gallon fuel cans on it and fill coolers. The rear door hinges are plenty strong. Hunner also has one and his has been loaded with more weight than mine without any issues. It does have a different mounting design and a front support.

 

Yeah I agree with you, after looking at how it is mounted. It would be a bit of a pain. Heavier items would go great on a hitch carrier!

What are you preferred hitch cargo carriers? Typically with me, brand is not of the most importance. I would rather go for something that is built well. Sadly when I think of a hitch cargo carrier I think of overloaded SUV's rolling down to the beach packed completely full of gear, scraping, and sagging. Obviously this is not the proper way to do things, and it is a bit different on an H3. But still they always seem to be sagging.

 

Yeah, after looking at how it mounts I agree with you as well as the previous poster. It seems pretty flimsy.. Might be good for wet tarps and tents when you have to pack up in a rain storm (I live in Oregon, and camp year round.)


If you do not want to mount them to the back, and the roof is kind of high.. Why dont you get bike cases? My cousin does this, he loads up his road, and mountain bike inside.

 

I had an issue on my old 2dr Jeep Cherokee sport. The doors started sagging after ten years, and were not aligned. I was able to fix it, but for a period of time I had to lift the door up, then shut it. I do not want this to happen with my H3. Do you happen to know how much weight Hunner puts up there?

 

Had some fun yesterday, took it on a moderately rated trail until it became too narrow because of some newly downed trees.. then spent 10 minutes backing out.. I need to bring a chainsaw next time.
