OK Guys - My new/old Track Car........
my concern for ya mike is that a rebuilt of this size can become rather costly...rather fast!! You were gonna stay with the stock 6 banger to save dough so I don't know if this tye of a car is what would be the best for your situation. Just my opinion, but you either need extensive body/mechaical skills or the cash to have it all done...either way your talking a lot of time./money/work to get where you want to be.
i dont want to dicourage mike from doing this, and its hard to tell from pictures the extent of the rust damage...but that could provide an even bigger hill in the uphill battle of making this car fast.
i have been slowly restoring the demon, and its a pain in the ***...we are down to trying to find stupid things like the wiring...and its proving to be difficult..and i was lucky enough to find a car that had an almost flawless body, interior, and chassis..

I hear ya Patrick, but you are a ton more experianced with wrenching than Mike is...not to knock you at all Mike, but this type of a job is going to have to be damn near a complete frame off restoration...imagine doing that with no experaince, it would be a fun prioject to learn on but driving it would be a few years in the future. If yu want to tackle it Mike, go for it.... just wish I was closer to you, it be fun to hang out on weekends and fix er up.
Well, I have a feeling it's rotting, because he had mentioned at some point a hole in the floor. I don't think he realized how bad it was when he started restoring it. I'm starting to have second thoughts now. I really want to race, and I prefer the old carburator cars, but this isn't in too good of shape as far as the chasis is concerned.
ive seen vehicles (like my 78 dodge truck) that had a hole in the floor so big that i could get into the truck without opening the doors, but the frame and structural components were still strong...a rotted floor isnt a huge deal. i have new panels welded into the floor of my white car...
it was the best..when i would go to parties, where i would be drinking and had no plans of driving home, i would put my keys in the glovebox, and lock the doors...in the morning, i would just crawl up through the hole in the floor...
until i had a whitetail come off a hillside, and through the passengers side door...[:@]
