New LED Headlights .. Need advise for DRL
Thanks for the write up. I desperately want to change my OEM buckets (DRLs) to these type of lamp, but have been looking for ways to mount them. Shame we can't get someone to fabricate a simple bracket which would marry the new light (many of these variants out there) to the oem mounting point. I would pay for that!
Trust me with a little patience . Minimum skill and some creativity you may fit any led drl in the oem and noone will noticed . .
If I got to do it again I will custom made a gasket to seal the gap in between.
Another thing that will help is the led wire position.
If this is aligned with the oem lamp screws then you are limited in the amount of cutting
In other words . If you can find a lamp withThe wire on the side will be a better fit than the one coming from top.or bottom.
Either way this are much better than the old oem drl
I did the same thing. I just used clear RTV because you can't see it and the black is a pain to get off things you don't want it on.
I have been searching for a long time for a set of DRLs that are one piece and match. One thing to consider is while driving they are on, so you can't tell if they match or not. I was even thinking of some film or spray type coating. They are only driving LIGJTS so if I figure something out I will post again.
Mine are also oxidized so it is on this weeks list. I think it is sand, Polish and then a real light film?

That is unfortunate on the condensation. I've seen that on some of the generic LED headlights before though. Friend of mine had that and the long term prognosis on his was not good - they failed within a couple of months with internal corrosion, first they started randomly dimming and one or the other not cutting on then just dead.
You have a couple of options for aftermarket LED headlights.
1 - spend a LOT on name brand ones like JW Speaker, Truck Lite, etc.
2 - spend a mid range amount on (might be more as its been a year since I researched it) on a known and proven Chinese brand
3 - roll the dice and take your chance on one of the very cheap Chinese brands that there are literally many hundreds and hundreds of that all look the exact same
That being said there is a very very specific one that I (and others on a Jeep forum) did a huge amount of research on. Even to the extent of opening one up and verifying internal components and quality. They have an incredible beam pattern and cutoff as good as the best high end HID lights and are every bit as bright. The problem is they are hard to spot and find but you can sometimes grab a pair of them for for pretty cheap. I've posted about them on here in a couple of other threads in the past 6 months or so.
Edit to add - this is the thread where I put a lot of info about them. I also uploaded some documents, etc and linked that as well toward the end of the thread. Another member on here also bought a set and is very happy with them. I personally know of over a half dozen pairs of these specific ones installed locally (and many more of folks on a Jeep board) and I'm not aware of one single failure or issue in over a year so far on some of them.

H2Miami - also in no way meaning anything negative about your choices. I think you did a fine job installing them and might be using some of your ideas on the DRL pockets for installing some lights there on mine.
Just not sure about the specific headlights you bought.

Im going to give these lights a second opportunity. Will send it to amazon for a replacement . Reviews on these are very good . Maybe I got a bad batch
If got issues with the replacement then will look to spend more on JW or trucklite . Btw JW said condensation is normal and to be expected . But still bother me to see those clouds on the lens
