Default Led lighting

I had changed my front head lights from halogen to HID. When one of the ballasts went out I switched to LED. I bought a good set from CARID but I still have some horizontal dead spots. I should add I have some nerve damage to my right eye which adds to the thrill to driving at night.

Getting rid rid of the halogen was great but sometimes I loose some spots when making turns at night.

Just wondering if anyone has had better coverage with a complete headlight set rather then just the lamp replacement.

I get the LED dead spots and reflection problems as the enclosure was made for halogen.

Maybe go go back to HID and keep replacing a ballast every now and then.

I've posted a couple of times about the LED headlights I went with. They are flat out amazing with a razor sharp cutoff like my old HID's and much brighter. They are hard to find though. Search for the thread on here where I posted about them. Its a very specific one and are around $175 for a set. They are full headlights, not bulbs.

Be aware - there are hundreds of different cheapo chinese ones that are pretty much rubbish too as well as high end ones from Truck Lite, JW Speaker, etc that cost over $500 for a pair.

Got it. Did you do anything with the DRL's. I have plug in LED's in those but the units are showing a lot of age. I cleaned the outside plastic lens (restored) but the inside fake chrome shows heat hazing from the original bulbs. Thought I might even tie them together so both come on at the same time. But just when I want.

thanks for the lamp models.

The headlights I got do have a DRL wire and they will come on pretty low but I did not connect it as I dont want to wear them out any sooner than needed.

My stock DRL's do still work and put put LED bulbs in them but like most everyones, the lenses are pretty much done and dull as can be.

DRL's are not required here so I plan on eliminating them (I'll leave the original DRL wires in case someone wants to add DRL's back in the future). I have some 4.5" fancy LED lights I'm going to mod some brackets for to replace the factory DRL's. Then will use a relay and a factory GM headlight switch with a foglight button (from a Tahoe - same switch as ours but with an additional button) to cut them on and off and use them as fog/driving lights.

i like the Drl location. My lamps are just in such bad shap. I done all this work to restore the truck and make upgrades that they have become kind of eyesores.

i pulled the onstar unit and fabricated a rocker switch panel to replace it. 7 switches fit in there perfectly. The relay panels I fabricated are located between the air intake and radiator overflow (6) and next to the sub under the rear seat (4). I used four relays for the future winch so I could have an in and out for the front and the back.

Think i found those bad boys. No picture of the box but they have the certifications. One mod i did that i really like is the addition of true WARN fog lights. Mounted low on the steel bumper. I keep losing one of the plastic stone guards. It's like throwing 20 bucks out the window. Lol. Going to get another and figure out a better way to secure them in place.

We have a TJ as well (did not have the Hummer at the time) and I originally discovered these particular lights on a Jeep forum.

Some guy on there had apparently gotten a deal and started selling them. It became quite a long thread with some heated debates. Myself and a couple of other did a LOT of research and really finding everything about them out.
Best no-name LED headlights - Page 32 - Jeep Wrangler Forum

They are made in China by a company called Foshan Tuff Plus and they truly are amazing quality for the money. I've had a set in the TJ for well over 6 months and a set in the H2 almost since the week I got it and not a single issue. You do have to cut the bucket to install them but it does not in any way prevent you from putting factory or other lights back in and is not really visible.

That thread on the other forums has plenty of beam shots, comparisons, details on exactly what to look for, etc to be sure you are getting the right ones. There are a ton of other that look close or nearly exactly the same but they are not the same. I've even gone to the extent of opening the back up to document the circuit board quality, etc.

Part of the reason they have become hard to find is they have been exclusively licensed by a couple of companies who have asked Foshan to stop offering them elsewhere. One major player is Super Bright LED's.... yo are going to pay a good bit more though at $169 each but you do also get a lifetime warranty.

The few reviews they have on there are 100% good too. They really are that good. I have several people I know that have also gotten them after seeing mine and they are also 100% happy. Also - you can find them in chrome or black. Som others that look right also have a half round bar light added - those are not the same. Know a guy that got some of those and they are not even half as bright.

There is another version on eBay that I've spotted that "look" right but no box shots and the USDOT stamp is at the top instead of the lower left and no ECE stamp. I cannot say 100% if those are as good. They have a very specific design and look though so its not too hard to spot them if you know what to look for. Specifically the right and left sections.

One on eBay that I mentioned 162364740939

Another on eBay - 131761548554 - these have the right markings. No box pics though. Thats also the cheapest I've ever seen them for a pair - black housings.

I'll also put this out there. The vast majority of the cheap aftermarket chinese made LED headlights will be a drastic improvement over stock ones we have. However they might have poor longevity, leak, and while they might seem like a great improvement, once you see one of those others compared to these you would not be happy with one of those others anymore. That is of course unless some other truly high quality one has come out from somewhere other than JW Speaker or Truck Lite.

Also - one other thing - go ahead and get a pair of 9007 male to H4 adapters. You will need them.. Only a few bucks and beats cutting wires. Pro Comp Explorer lighting has also licensed them - model #76402P.

Also - I did not need nor used the anti-flicker adapters they come with on my 2003. I'd venture to guess, if any, only the 2008/2009 models "might" need those.

Thank you so much. I know its a pain to keep rehashing the same posts. i thought i did my research but... This right eye crap really has me down because it will come and go. Make the defoliant stronger, it tests better, they get the contract, well the rest is old history.

That's funny that you have a jeep too. We don't always play nice in the sandbox together. I have to admit, I still find myself messing with them on the road a bit. lol

Thanks again. I saw the manufacturers web site and will make sure they are the real deal before I buy them.

MixManSC,
I am looking to do the upgrade in my lights that you suggested in one of your posts.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more.../#tab/Overview

my questions are....
1) are these headlights sold as a single unit or in pairs or what?
2) also, are these plug and play or do i also need to order a connector? (if a connector needs to be ordered, do you know which one??)

Thanks

When ordering these particular lights from Superbrightleds.com the price is each. You need two. So a good bit more expensive but that does come with a lifetime warranty. Superbrightleds las been around a long time and their customer service is excellent so if you were to decide that you do not like them you could return them or if for some odd reason you did have a problem with one getting it replaced would be easy. From other places it might not be as easy but that is a chance I was willing to take myself.

They are not plug and play as is. You will need a pair of 9007 Male to H4 Female adapters to plug them in without cutting any wires. I ordered a pair on eBay for about $7 with free shipping.

You will also need to remove the headlight bucket and do some minor cutting for them to fit. Its fairly easy though and does not affect anything nor will it prevent you from reinstalling the stock lights if you wanted to. I think I posted some pics of how I cut them in another thread. The back buckets are plastic - I cut mine with a dremel with a cutoff wheel on it.

I'll throw in my 2 cents for you as I just went through this. First, the lights are awesome!

Hard to find also because the manufacturer is always looking for "new and improved" marketing ideas. So boxes have changed but not the baseline specs. You are going to have to go through a process of elimination by writing down the specs and check lights that look somewhat like them. It takes awhile but they are out there.

Forget about compatibility. Any 7" lamp will work with some mod's which are very easy to do.

You absolutely need the adapter from the H4 to the 9007 or you can make your own.
You just have to trace the wiring because the grounds are located in different positions. 6 fuses later, left right and hi lo, I figured this out after I tried splicing my own. White is the international ground color so I thought what the heck. Wrong. I should have listened to Mixman.

Right now, I have to take them back out because I have then in upside down. Its a beautiful patern, just upside down. I had no instruction in the box off any kind. I attached some pics or at least tried to. I cant seem to post pics or just dont know how to do it very well.
