RE: MPG roll call for H3s
Well,I'm getting about 16/17 mpg around town.19/20 on the highway.Hwy speeds 65 to 70.This is an 07 5spd.I do short shift around town and light throttle/1800 r.p.m. seems to be about where I shift it.Currently about 4500 miles,I do have the base tires and they are kept at 35 p.s.i.This vehicle is generally operated in the northern suburbs of Chicago.Lots of stoplights,so you try to time them to avoid losing the speed you just paid for.I save the go nuts driving for my Magnum SRT-8.Now,ya wanna talk about crummy mileage?

My last fill netted 17.4mpg. In the last 8-10 miles of the freeway I nailed it hard just to see what it was like at 90mph. After that lil blast the gauge moved well further than I'd anticipated. Lesson learned...lay off the go pedal for the everyday driving. My goal is to find out how to get consistant 20+mpg in normal daily usage. My advantage is that I drive 41 miles 1 way to work, the wife drives 30. For both of us there's very little stop n go as we live in a rural area of S.E. Mich.
Now I also noticed something else. In the standard driving position of the T-case (60/40) it feels like I'm actually towing a light load. Just for grins I switched it to 4H (50/50) and felt a significant increase in accelleration. I found that to be quite interesting. I need to read up on the full operation of the T-case and see how it's designed to function. If it accells easier is the load on the driveline less? Same? To hard on the front drive? Does it normally "push" the front drive and in 50/50 they're equal? What's been your experiences, especially some of you more seasoned off-roaders.

That's funny! I made a trip a couple months ago from central Ohio to Savannah, and if I remember correctly, I averaged about 16.7ish. My advice: Never do that drive on Thanksgiving weekend!
