Locker replacement
Anyone replace their E Locker with something else? I just blew out my spider gears and can't find a replacement set that works with the stock E Locker. All the sites I go to say their part is made for H2. They'll fit but the locker can't be used with it. They just make it an open diff. Eaton makes a service kit (29394-00S) but I think it's a newer design and not compatible(correct me if I'm wrong-I'll verify with Eaton and let you know). They don't offer a new E Locker for the H2 but they do for the H3. They do offer a Detroit Locker(225C135A) that seems bullet proof.
I'm also looking for a front locker. Any recommendations?

Check Ebay or a junkyard. YOu might also search for HD 2500 locker, they might be the same.
I don't think you'll have much luck o n the front, I think the factory electronics were designed not to need a true locker.
Some people have changed over to the HD 2500 front drive line and transfer case so that they can run in 2wd instead of AWD but I don't know whats involved with that exactly.

I contacted Eaton. They claim that the service kit (29394-00S) is compatible with the H2. So I ordered it. Eaton originally designed the E-Locker for AM General and the H2. They have changed the design through the years. The problem is that it is a 2 pinion differential and is the weakest link in the system. They now make a 4 pinion E-Locker but not for the H2, the vehicle they designed the original E-Locker for. The HD2500 is the same 9.5" 14 bolt 33 spline rear end and Eaton doesn't offer an E-Locker option for that either. I think the HD2500 had the G80 Govloc auto locker. They're known for grenading. I had one in a Suburban and it did well but I didn't have 40" MT's on it.
I've decided to install a Detroit Locker in the rear(no pinions) and put the stock E-locker in the front. The Detroit Locker is stronger than the E-Locker. The Detroit Locker is a little more crude on streets as it's always locked except if the wheel without power is spinning faster than the powered one.
If I choose to swap out to a 2wd instead of an AWD transfer case I'll also swap my spark plugs for glow plugs. Someone (Predator I think) makes a transfer case that has 2wd, awd, 4hi & 4lo options but it's only for the H1.
Someone correct me if I'm incorrect in any of this. The stock E-Locker with it's 2 pinion design is just asking for a breakdown and it would probably be on a trail in MOAB pissing off the Jeeps behind me that can't get around.
