Default TCS vs Diff. Locker

I'm new at this 4x4 gig.

I still don't understand how a rear diff. locker would be better than the TCS.

Wouldn't it better in all situation where the power is transferred to the wheel that grips while the other is slipping, than having both wheels turn at the same time?

Can somebody please explain this to me?

Thanks.

Simple really, why would it better to have it send power to the one with traction, .. vs both having full power? It's better to have power to both. Instead of waiting for the system to figure out where the traction is, it (a locker) just keeps sending power to both wheels, letting it claw it's way to where it needs to go. Even better, give me front and rear lockers every time. When you have wheeled a rig w/ front & rear lockers, you don't want to go back to anything else.

The guy driving this K5 was being "spotted" by someone who didn't really know where to put him. The reason I show it, open diffs with a TCS probably would have never even let him get to where he is at now (even if the line he's on is bad). Low gears and front & rear lockers will often keep climbing, even past the point that they should. Open diffs would have just spun the tires way before this.

Usually the oil isn't so much an issue.. it still gets picked up by the pump. But, on the older rigs.. carbs can be a problem. In these type of climbs, fuel injection is a real blessing.
