Default A Few Questions. Maybe you could help

My first questions is...
are the factory rims for the Hummer H3 covered on the bumper to bumper warranty of they are starting to oxidize? My car is an 07 H3 with 29k on it. I didnt create scratching on the rims to start the process of oxidizing. I dont know if i can take it in and get new rims for it or not.

Also
Has anyone experienced a louder than usual rattle/humming noise coming from the right front passanger side when pushing the gas peddle to just below 2rpm in a low gear? I have noticed that the last few days its getting louder. Im not sure if something came loose.

Thanks for your help.

By oxidizing do you mean, white chalky lines? If so than yes, you can get your rims re-machined under warranty. I had the same problem and had all 5 redone about 7 months ago. They sent them out for repair and came back looking brand new. It did take about a week for them to decide.

I tried to get them to have them powder coated but they wanted to charge me almost a grand to do so.

Here is a GM bulletin:
#07-03-10-015: General Motors New Vehicle Wheel Warranty Coverage - (Nov 6, 2007)

Subject:General Motors New Vehicle Wheel Warranty Coverage

Models:1996-2008 GM Passenger Cars and Light Duty Trucks (including Saturn)
2003-2008 HUMMER H2
2006-2008 HUMMER H3
2005-2008 Saab 9-7X

-Warrantable Issues
Any defects in the finish, balance, or structure of the wheel resulting from improper manufacture are covered under the New Vehicle Warranty for the full time and mileage limits of that warranty. Typical covered finish issues that you may encounter are:

• Polished or machined aluminum wheels that exhibit Filiform Corrosion (chalky white lines under the clear coating) This condition is warrantable, unless it is caused by incorrect wheel weight application and use.

Thank you! The information really helps me out. I just dropped the car off this morning and im hoping everything comes out well. Unfortunatly, when i started the car the Serv 4WD light came on. Good timing right!? I love this car and im hoping this is the last time i have to take it in for a defect. Lets cross our fingers on that one!

if you could, could you post a picture of what the rims looked like before you got them fixed by the dealer. I might have this issue, but I don't know what it looks like

I've got the same rattle at about 1800 to 1900 rpm. I've taped and zip tied everything I can get my hands on. I read on an older thread that it may be something loose on or around the air box that is resonating up through the passenger fender. I've played with the air box a little but nothing really poped out at me as being the cause of the rattle. Gonna try a few things this week and see what happens.

So I got my car back yesterday afternoon.
As for the rattle noise that was happening, they stated it was the diff shield that needed to be resecured. The noise is much quieter than it was but Im still hearing something under there. I will wait it out and see if it enhances by the next oil change.
They looked at the Serv 4WD light that came on. Code C0306 was what showed up. Cleared and tested ok. Im sure it will come on again as it always does.
As for the rims. I attached a picture of my current factory rims with the oxidizing problem. I know it looks like it has started due to scratching but they have never touched a curb or anything that would cause imperfections to them. I dont know if its worth me going in and seeing what they can do or just wait it out and notify them right before my warranty is up.

The rims you have do have Filiform Corrosion. I would take it to the dealership to get redone. When I took mine in, the service tech took pictures and had sent them to the manager. Then I waited for a response and the word was that it is a warrantable repair and Gm normally has them re-machined not replaced.

Once repaired they will look brand new.
