I was driving down the highway the other day, began to ascend an overpass, heard a loud bang, then the truck began slowing, even though I could accelerate the engine.

I pulled over and the front right half-shaft had backed out of the diff by two or three inches, and the diff was leaking fluid.

My question is, is this a failed CV joint, or a failed diff?

I would say its the diff sounds like what happened to me its a warranty issue !
