those roof lights do produce alot of glare off the hood. Try investing in matte black magnetic sheets that you can place on top of your hood when ur doing night runs. I have those on my white H3 and besides the louder wind noise + rattles, they are completely useless at night due to the huge amount of glare I get from the lights bouncing back off my white hood and into my eyes. Offcourse matte black sheets should fix the glare issue.
I also do desert driving, and the sand on the windshield does bother me, but its the glare that mostly ruins the entire experience.

Have you tried putting a strip of black electical tape across the bottom of the bulbs to block light from hitting the hood? That's what I'm going to do when I finally get my roof lights sorted out. Whoever installed them on my truck made a real abortion out of them.

Another hint for Aussie, put a little dab of your favorite anti seize compound on the wide head screws when installing the kit. It'll keep the screws from locking in solid to the treaded inserts if you ever have to remove the shroud to replace a bulb.

The anti seize is a good tip. I would not put electrical tape on the lenses, it will burn off quick, they put out lots of heat. Speaking of that, interesting thing about these lights is that you can turn them on/off without the key in the ignition. If you keep them covered with the lens caps, be careful - you can melt those caps and run your battery down - they will not shut off when the key is removed from the ignition.

Interesting comments, have fitted the lights and just completed a 2000km round trip to Sydney as well as other locations as well as a fair bit of off roading, in the last three days, and there is no increase in wind noise or any rattles from the lights what so ever, nothing at all.

So I have a feeling if your roof lights are producing wind noise or rattle they are not fitted correctly.

I have used anti seize on the bolts when fitting them.

Have not wired them up yet, have only ran the wires into the engine bay, but did not really have the time to wire them. Will do this next time I get a day or two off work, so can not comment on the glare. May be the lights need adjusting if you have too much glare?? I also have the grill lights, and will be wiring the lot up soon.

I wish I was the one who installed them on my truck when it was new, I have a hunch now that all problems with them are due to poor installation. At this point with mine, I need to find a source for the threaded inserts because 2 of mine were installed wrong and one is missing.

Mate the treaded insets are called 'rivnuts' or 'nutsert' and are readily available at any bolt/hardware/engineering shop, even ebay complete with install tool.

214 PC Blind Rivet NUT Rivnut Nutsert Tool KIT M3 TO M8 | eBay

Can get some close up photos if you need them of where it needs to sit.

Had a couple of hours today so completed all engine bay wiring for both the grill lights and roof lights, installed wiring into fuse box, and fitted relays, so engine bay is all done

Also removed interior radio trim panel and fitted switches for lights, all that is now required to do is connect the interior wiring for the switches. But I will need to customise the wiring slightly to make it street legal here in Australia. I will wire them so that they will only receive power when the high beams are on, and the grill and roof lights turn off as soon as the high beams are dipped.

This will make them street legal for road use over here, so the power supply for the switches will be run through a separate relay activated by the high beam switch.

PS here are some photos taken on my last trip last week with the lights fitted, not great quality but photos none the less, was exploring a property I was considering buying when the photos were taken, ended up deciding against this particular block (260 acres) too hilly for what I wanted it for:

Default hi beam sw?

@ Aussie,
I am working on an automatic dimmer and cant easily find the wire from the turn signal sw that flips the lights up/dn
I want to pull that wire up/dn with a relay or transistor. I have the cds cell and circuit but I want to minimize dismantling to get the wire.
do you know an ez access point.
way back in the 50's, an uncle had an oldsmobile that had such a device.
that was in the days of vacume tubes! quite a job back then for auto elex huh!
the wire that gets toggled when you pull back to flash/hi beam should do it huh?

My 06 truck came with the offroad lights installed factory. At the beginning they were great but later on they just started whistling and bothering.

Btw, your truck looks great. Those lights (although annoying for me) give a lot of character to the H3. I would like to install em on the alpha but I'm already complaining about the side pillars rattling, I dont want to add something else to worry about!

Default Love the H3!

Keep up the good work, looks great, do yourself a favor and crank up the torsion bars to level it out.

Ahh, my bad didn't see your thread had more than one page, love the look or your rig, Im with you on the installation of the overhead lights, mine have had no problems whatsoever with wind noise and rattle, of course the glare sucks but its not bad unless my windshield is filthy. Once I get home from vacation ill update a thread regarding the build of my H3. Hopefully mine will look as amazing as yours has turned out(:
