Advice on buying 08 H3
It's just a sad fact. The H3 should had never been fitted out with the I5 Engine. Read any review, anywhere. With a I5 the truck can't even get out of it's own way. Ask twenty people who have driven both. Not one would take the I5 over a V8. I would get one with more miles on it rather than settle. Just get the V8. It's like guys who buy a car with no turbo while another step up, the same model is offered in a turbo. They end up buying the naturally aspirated version, then a year down the road they want to convert their non turbo into a turbo. This can't be done, or it will cost three times more than just getting the turbo in the first place. If you have no Hummer yet, don't even consider anything but the V8. Simple. Not one person would trade a V8 in on a 5.

The I5 will accomplish the needs of 95% Hummer owners. It's not a dragster, nor a hot rod. Towing capacity? Go buy a truck for towing. It's an off-road champion. Wake up. My 5 cylinder stomps well enough on the highway.. Passing most corny asses if needed. Laughable thread at best. And I've driven cars, trucks, firetrucks (p19s at 77k pounds with a straight 6) etc.

ive never floored my i5!!. i drive for fun,love hilly,curvy roads and playing in the snow. got 2 lockers but rarely use them except to xercize the gears. i drive 80-90 on turnpikes when i can get away with it.

You're still missing the point., Hummin. There are thousands and thousands of i5 H3s out there (significantly more than V8s) driving around every day, and doing just fine. And if you compare apples to apples (same condition, same options, same mileage, etc), you WILL pay several thousand more for the Alpha (and continue to pay more every day at the pump). Tuneups will also cost slightly more (8 plugs vs 5, larger oil capacity, etc).
Why are there engine options available on cars and trucks? Because not everyone wants or needs the extra power. The OP is NOT towing. He's NOT off-roading. He's NOT racing. Who are you to say that he should spend more for an engine he doesn't need?
Is the added power of the V8 nice? Is the locker nice? Is the 4:1 transfer case nice? Yes, they are, and for ME they were worth the extra money. But to say that it's a no brainer to always get the V8 is right on the edge of insulting thousands of your fellow H3 enthusiasts.
