Ok so, status report! There isn’t anything wrong with this truck except that it isn’t getting any fuel. It starts up just fine with a little starter fluid, it drives itself forwards and backwards, and all other electronic items that have been tested all work. So far I need to buy wipers, one relay, I had to buy a battery this morning and an air filter, and I haven’t finished diagnosing why the pump isn’t running. Code U0109 is the only code being displayed. There is no pressure at the rail, and the pump is not turning on at all. There is power to the relay and the fuse, although the reference voltage at the relay is concerning low at .5 volts. If anyone knows anything about that being correct or not off the top of their head that would be helpful!

The truck also has an aftermarket alarm which could come into play with this issue. It has an Avital alarm with remote start that appears to be functioning properly but I can’t rule out it interfering.

The security light turns on with the key on and stays on.

Only evidence of flooding has been ever so slight corrosion present on few connectors, and the comically flooded drivers headlight. 😂

Did you remove that old stale gas, before you pump into the engine? Also, new engine oil in it?
"Security light on", NOT flashing?

U0109 Lost communication from the FPCM.

U0109 Possible Causes

Faulty Fuel Pump Control Module
Fuel Pump Control Module harness is open or shorted
Fuel Pump Control Module circuit poor electrical connection

Flow chart:

CHECK VOLTAGE AT FPCM CONNECTOR
CRC CLEAN FPCM CONNECTOR AND CONTACTS
OPEN FPCM AND CLEAN BOARD
REPLACE FPCM

Little update: after I was done washing it it started one time, for around 45 seconds. Fuel pumps ran and when it died fuel was present at the rail. I think something with the alarm was disabling it but I haven’t gotten it to start again. Trouble shooting time is over for the days managed to get a wash done and wiped down the interior. I’ll be climbing in the mountains tomorrow and splitboarding so maybe I’ll get back to it on Monday. 🤙

I have a similar situation going on with my 08 Alpha. Mine will not even turn over. No dome lights, but map lights works, weird. Still diagnosing mine though.

maybe water in the fuel. it was supposedly in a flood. probably should not have tried starting it without verifying the gas, all fluids and the cylinders for water first.

None of the fluids have water in them that has already been verified. I’ll drain the tank if the issue persists of just not starting, but that’s not going to be the issue if the fuel pump is not getting power all of the time. I’ll have Monday to work on it again! Thanks for the suggestions that have been posted so far!

Tried to point that out, since it's been sitting stable for years.

What happens when gas gets old?

If gas sits, it begins to degrade in a couple of ways. In time, gas will lose octane. Octane is the combustible part of gasoline. The higher the octane rating (think 87, 89, 93), the better the air-fuel mixture and the better the combustion in the cylinders. Old gas also loses its volatility — how explosive it is — as it ages. The decrease in volatility decreases engine performance. Residues and water from gas burning can also build up in the engine and gas as it sits. None of these bode well for engine function.

Today I tested for power at the fpcu plug. The relay up front is not switching and supplying power when the key is on. I can jump power across the relay and the fpcu harness has power in all of the right places. At this point I am starting to look at the aftermarket alarm system, but that has to be another day! It’s something stupid, but I’ll find it! I’m going to pull the main alarm box to the aftermarket setup and open it up to see if it has corrosion inside. The remote works, the remote start works, but something is keeping the truck from switching that relay. Open to suggestions!
