Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
When I start my H3 in the morning, it will me one of three things. First mode is everything is fine, transfer case lights show I'm in 4High. Second Mode is transfer case lights state it is in Neutral. Third mode is no transfer case lights, Traction failed, service stab sys. No matter the mode, it still runs and drives fine, other than having no ability to shift transfer case in modes 2 and 3. Local mechanic put it on his diagnostic machine and said there's a history of error codes, but nothing active.
One of my thoughts is a possible wheel speed sensor, but think that would also show up as an ABS system failure, which isn't happening. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
With any Tech Question YERA and MILES is important. I do not understand: "it will me one of three things. First mode".... "Second Mode"... "Third mode". What is a "mode"?
We would need to know what the actual historic codes are/were. Post them here. What your mechanic said is pretty useless in figuring out details.
Are you still trying to use the crappy azzed OEM Battery Terminal Connectors? If so, they need to go ASAP and be replaced by a quality aftermarket set like Stingers or your favorite brand. Know failure points that cause electrical Gremlins leading to a multitude of symptoms.
The other thing you should do is buy a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner and spray the Transfer Case Control Buttons (cracks in between) with the vehicle off and let dry. If anyone spilled liquid on/in there that leads to issues.
I also MOVED your thread because it ain't no FAQ and the sticky at the top of the H3 FAQ Section says to NOT POST IN THIS SECTION as in: "Please DO NOT POST IN THIS SECTION just because you thought up some question!!!!!! This includes all you newbs."

Okay, let me clarify. exchange the word "mode" for the word "thing". And it only tells me "traction failed" and i need to "Service Stab Sys" in the information window. the OBDII tester I have shows no error codes.
Alright, that is one of those things that can be cause by the crappy azzed battery terminal connectors. They suck, will fail and cause other issues as well. Replacing those with a quality aftermarket set id THE 1st Mod to do to every H3/H3T.
When I bought my second H3, that started to happen because it sat on the Toyota Dealer's lot, the battery died, they charged it, but the issue persisted. Their "technicians/mechanics" were clueless and could not correct it. I made a low offer conditioned upon them letting me replace the terminals and seeing the results. It was out of state, I just bought a cheap azzed Positive terminal at the local Auto Zone, hacked of the OEM for chit terminal, and problem gone. When I got it home, Stingers were the first addition I made. Never an issue since. The Yota Mechanics could not believe that did it.... Been there, done that.
First Day home, what I did when I bought it.
First Mod.
Easy stuff first. It could also be as simple as a bad connection in at the Transfer Case Actuator connection or compromise to its harness. You truck is OLD. Everyone with an old vehicle should have a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner on hand because connections and grounds will corrode and need attention. Disconnect the T Case Actuator, spray both the Connector and T Case side, let dry and make sure that is properly snapped into place when reconnected. See if it resolves. If not, trace the harness.
