UPDATE: Front-end Rattle...Any Suggestions?
Hey Geena. I had what seems to be a similar issue. I read this thread and thought it could be the stearing shaft but after inspecting it I found that wasn't it. My grill isn't loose, what it actually is, come to figure out, is the D-Rings on the front bumper. They have loosend up over time and are "clunking" around. Tightening them back up fixed the problem!
I have an 2007 H3 with 34,000 miles. The clunking started when it was very hot outside, and you could feel this in the steering column. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the lower shaft as per the service bulletin. Problem solved. This forum is the only way I would have known what the problem was. So thanks to everyone who has provided information about this.
hi there im in Sydney and a h3 owner I have had so much problems with the h3 I dont know were to begin. I got the stearing columb changed, still clunking after 2 weeks , then I waited 6 months for gm 2 sort out their sh@t then they sayn ok we worked it out, a speciasl grease needs 2 be put in the colum but 2 weeks later its still nocking noise , THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE I bought a lot of new cars and never experienced this much problems and the service team at P@@@ H@@@@ are no help they are absolutely rude.

Hi there, I am in Dubai and my H3 '08 started the same clunking/knocking noise in both the steering and the foot pedals. The suspension also generally felt like it was going to fall apart. I took it to my useless service centre for the 2nd time and tried to explain the issue to them, they simply brushed me off and said they would lube the suspension. This did not fix the problem. Thanks to this forum I found the issue (TSB attached) and took the car back, it took me an hour to prove the issue to them, they refused to acknowledge the TSB . I finally got it fixed (lower steering column replaced) today and the car feels even better then we I first got it last year. Overall I have been very disappointed with Hummer's service in Dubai, they really could do better.

Any other suggestions on getting this issue diagnosed, then ultimately having them repair it? Ive done research on several sites, it seems clear that there is something loose or defective in the new front end they installed. Figuring out what it is is the problem, when they dont seem inclined to do it at the shop that did the original repairs.
